According to the latest reports, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has advised Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sell French midfielder Paul Pogba in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Englishman believes that the sale of Pogba would be one of the biggest solutions to many problems at Manchester United.
The Red Devils were in a shambles when Jose Mourinho was in charge of Manchester United in the early stages of the season. The Portuguese manager instilled a defensive philosophy into the club which wasn’t taken kindly by the United faithful and 56-year-old was given the sack in December. Manchester United then turned to a familiar face in the form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to handle the reins at least until the end of the season and stabilize the sinking ship.
Initially, Solskjaer turned his fortunes around at Old Trafford when he was appointed as caretaker of the club and exceeded expectations by going on a great run. The players at Old Trafford looked happy and content as they played attacking football and the smiles returned on the faces of the United faithful. The 46-year-old guided United to the quarterfinals of the Champions League in dramatic fashion after overturning a 2-0 first leg deficit against Paris Saint Germain and winning 3-1 at the Parc Des Princes to qualify into the next round. United also strung together a run of positive results in the Premier League to compete for a top-four spot and be eligible to qualify for next season’s Champions League. The Norwegian was then handed a three-year contract by Manchester United and appointed as a permanent boss of the club. However, results have not been the same ever since as they were dumped out of the Champions League by Barcelona and also stumbled in the hunt for a top-four berth.
One player who has had a mixed season is French midfielder Paul Pogba since 26-year-old has come under criticism for his displays but at the same time he is the club’s top scorer this season. Pogba has 15 goals and nine assists for United this term but at times looks disinterested in playing for the club. His performances have been given scathing remarks by former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher stating that Pogba should be the first person at the exit door at Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid are targeting Pogba and Carragher believes that if an offer comes in from the La Liga giants, Manchester United should move the Frenchman away from the club. While writing in his Telegraph column, the 41-year-old stated that Pogba should be the first one out of Old Trafford in United’s plans, “The immediate concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not who Manchester United should buy to rebuild the club. It is who they sell; there would be one name at the top of my list. Paul Pogba. If Real Madrid have £100m and Zinedine Zidane wants him, United can solve the first of many problems as their long reconstruction gets underway.”
