According to the reports that had emerged some time ago, it has been confirmed that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has threatened to sell more than half of his current squad following a final day defeat against Cardiff City in the Premier League. A dismal performance ended the last day of the season with a 2-0 defeat and a massive task for Manchester United boss Solskjaer in the next few months to rebuild.
Manchester United were in a shambles early on in the season when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club. The Portuguese boss instilled a very defensive philosophy into the club which wasn’t taken too kindly by the United faithful. This led to the sacking of the 56-year-old back in December after United were failing to get the desired results and performances under Mourinho. The Red Devils then turned to a familiar face in the form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to handle the reins at least until the end of the season so that he could stabilize the sinking ship.
Solskjaer though exceeded expectations and strung together a bunch of positive results in the Premier League which reignited the chase for a top four berth. A dramatic comeback in the Champions League against Paris Saint Germain saw the red half of Manchester overturn a 2-0 deficit against the Ligue 1 giants as they won 3-1 at the Parce Des Princes to progress through to the next round. Happy days at Old Trafford seemed to have returned following a disastrous run and Solskjaer was then handed a three-year contract to manage the club on a permanent basis. However, the results were not as many of the Manchester United faithful desired it to be as they were dumped out of the Champions League against Barcelona as they slipped further into the table and finished the season sixth.
During the last few games of the campaign, Manchester United suffered quite a few humiliating defeats that showed the true colors of the team and highlighted the areas that Solskjaer needed to improve on. On the last day of the season, Manchester United hosted Cardiff City at Old Trafford as they looked to end the season on a high. But the relegated side pulled up a surprise victory which showed the spirit of the team and on the other side the complacency of the United players treading lightly.

Two goals by Nathaniel Mendez-Laing either side of half-time earned Cardiff three points and United further grief and frustration. United have won just two of their last 12 games and Solskjaer reportedly threatened to sell more than half of the players after the full-time whistle. Reports claimed that the 46-year-old was shouting at his players, claiming he was embarrassed by their performance against the 18th placed Cardiff City. United’s loss against Cardiff meant they finished sixth and eventually 32 points behind the leaders and champions from across the border Manchester City. A massive overhaul is on the cards this summer with a lot of big-name players set to depart the Theatre Of Dreams.
