Latest: Chelsea Star’s Brother Gives An Update On His Future

According to the latest reports, Gonzalo Higuain’s brother has admitted that the on loan Chelsea striker would like to see out his contract with his parent club Juventus despite links to other European clubs. The 31-year-old forward has not had a fruitful spell with the Blues following his loan move to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window from Juventus.

Maurizio Sarri did quite a wonderful job at Chelsea in his debut season with the club after he succeeded his fellow Italian compatriot Antonio Conte at the club. The 60-year-old former Napoli master tactician was given plenty of praise and plaudits when he brought in an attacking and effective style of football in West London. Sarri helped Chelsea reach the finals of the League Cup but lost out to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in a penalty shootout. Despite a stumble midway through the season, Chelsea managed to secure a top four berth and even win the Europa League, which was incidentally Sarri’s first trophy as a professional manager.

However, the Blues are still considering whether they should keep him at the club for a while longer or sack him as the club will not be able to purchase players for the next two transfer windows. This means that Chelsea will have to promote youth and bring back their players who are on loan elsewhere. One player who will have to decide on his future will be Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Chelsea will not be looking to extend his stay at the club on a loan deal that will allow him to return to Juventus in the summer but there is no place for Higuain at the home of the Serie A champions. Fellow Italian club AS Roma are keen on signing Higuain but his brother and agent Nicholas would prefer the attacker to remain in Turin and see out his contract with Juventus.

While speaking to the Mirror, Nicholas said: “Gonzalo wants to respect his contract and therefore stay with Juventus for another two years. His performances at Juve have been good and playing for another team in Italy isn’t a workable solution. I don’t want to disrespect anyone, but if Gonzalo plays in Italy again then he only will for Juve, who owns him.”

Higuain’s national team career has also been questioned and Nicholas has confirmed that is client has not even considered quitting playing for Argentina, “I think it is still too early because Gonzalo is 31 and, once he has recharged his batteries, he will be good enough for Juventus. He has no second thoughts about quitting the national team. He felt he had to give way to younger players because staying in the national team for such a long time is a great responsibility and he preferred to withdraw himself.”

Higuain had a rather underwhelming time at Stamford Bridge during the second half of the season, scoring five goals in 18 appearances for Chelsea. Juventus look likely to loan him out once again for the upcoming season as they have a number of high-quality strike options at Allianz Stadium.
