Barcelona is about to make a number of sales this summer. Portuguese midfield star Andre Gomes is among the names that are doing the rounds in the list of names who are going to be offloaded. It is reported that Arsenal has thrown their hat in the ring to sign the midfielder who will turn 26 at the end of next month.
This makes it a huge battle in the transfer market between London clubs as Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are also interested in signing the player.
Arsenal Show Interest In Tottenham And West Ham Target?
Andre Gomes has already been in England this season with Everton and it is believed that the Toffees want to see him in the upcoming seasons at Goodison Park and that they are ahead of their competitors in the market. Gomes has made 27 appearances in the Premier League this season and he has left a good impression on Marco Silva who is pushing the management to try and make the loan deal convert into a permanent one.
As per the latest news doing the rounds, West Ham has already got two bids of £18m and £20m. With the sale of Edimilson Fernandes to German club FSV Mainz, the fans are now pressurizing the club authorities to pay the £25m asking price of FC Barcelona and sign the player. According to The Telegraph, Tottenham chairman has given a go-ahead to sign the player and he has approved a £30m bid to be placed for the player which is more than what the others are capable of paying right now,
However, there’s a twist in the tale, as Spanish radio show RAC1 are now making a claim that Arsenal is working on a deal to sign the player and that they are doing it right under the noses of their city rivals Spurs.
What Next For The Gunners; Can They Bring Him In And Add Him To Their Squad?
The play-maker is in huge demand in the English market. He’ll be having multiple offers to choose from. A return to Barcelona is highly unlikely at this point in time. Unai Emery has had a topsy-turvy time during his first season at the Emirates.
The Spanish manager will be on the lookout for replacements once the window opens. Aaron Ramsey is already joining Juventus on a free transfer. It is a massive blow for the Gunners. Gomes can be a great replacement for the outgoing Welshman.
Gomes is a bright prospect. He is yet to reach his peak. It was expected that Tottenham was leading the race to sign. However, with the entry of the Gunners, the battle for the player has just got interesting.
After an impressive first year in England, the Portuguese international would like to return to European football. Spurs can give him Champions League football next season. It might be a great factor influencing his decision. That is to decide on the next club he’ll be playing for. It remains to be seen where Gomes will end up. He could fit in well at the Emirates. Certainly deserves a high profile move after such an impressive first year in England.
