Diego Costa Could Join This Premier League Club This Summer?

Diego Costa

According to the latest reports, Spanish forward Diego Costa is looking to make a return to the Premier League and join Merseyside club Everton in the summer transfer window. The Atletico Madrid striker has reportedly fallen out with the staff members at the Spanish capital and wants a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano, with Everton interested in his signature. The Toffees want to add more quality up front and will look to get a deal done, though Manchester United could also look to sign him as a potential replacement for Lukaku.

Costa spent three and a half years at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea between 2014 till 2017 helping the Blues to win two Premier league titles and one League Cup as well. The 30-year-old forward arrived in England in a £30m deal from Atletico Madrid and won Chelsea the Premier League title scoring important goals on a regular basis under Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager and Costa worked really well together as a team and in tandem but the following season was quite a disastrous one for the both of them as Mourinho got the sack and Costa was heavily criticized for his poor outings on the field.

In his third season at Chelsea, under the management of Antonio Conte, Costa led the line in the supreme vein of goalscoring form winning another Premier League title. But that summer, Conte, and Costa had a falling out this led the player training alone and being banished from the squad. Costa then forced a move back to Atletico Madrid back in January 2018 ending his Chelsea stint with a rather impressive record of 52 goals in 89 appearances as a Blue. Costa has now proven himself as an elite striker in the Premier League and looks to make a return to England’s top flight this summer as Everton are preparing a move for the Spaniard.

Costa previously spent seven seasons with the Rojiblancos between 2007 and 2014 before making the move to Chelsea. Across two spells with Atletico Madrid, Costa has gone on to make 178 appearances scoring 76 times and assisting a further 31 times. This season, Costa managed to make only 16 La Liga appearances for Diego Simeone’s side but that was majorly due to suspensions and injuries. The Madrid side also won the Europa League title and the UEFA Super Cup following Costa’s €56m transfer move back to the Spanish League.

Simeone and the rest of the staff at Atletico Madrid have had enough of the star forward’s antics and want to get rid of Costa and there is no shortage of takers for the prolific goalscorer.

Latest reports have claimed that Everton is looking to make a bid for the star forward as the Toffees have only two out and out strikers and on the books as well. Dominic Calvert Lewin and Cenk Tosun are those two attackers but none of them really look like players that can take the club to the next level in terms of their goal-scoring prowess. Tosun netted just thrice in 25 appearances for Everton while Dominic Calvert Lewin scored six times in 35 appearances. Everton is in dire need of a proper center forward to play alongside Brazilian forward Richarlison.
