According to the latest reports, Premier League side Arsenal is reportedly keen on letting midfielder Lucas Torreira leave the club amid interest from Serie A club AC Milan in the summer transfer window. The Uruguayan arrived at Arsenal last summer for a transfer fee of around £26.4m from Italian club Sampdoria and enjoyed quite a fabulous debut season at the North London club.
Ever since Unai Emery took charge of Arsenal Football club back in the summer of 2018, he enjoyed quite a mixed bag of a season in the Premier League. The Spanish boss inherited the club from legendary French manager Arsene Wenger who was in charge of the Gunners for 22 long years. During Wenger’s reign at Arsenal, he managed to win three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups bringing the competing spirit back at the club. However, towards the final few seasons of his tenure, Wenger’s philosophy became outdated and the newer generation of managers was able to outwit and out tactic Wenger and even the most ardent of Arsenal fans wanted him out of the club as Wenger’s football was getting boring and toxic.
Wenger was then replaced by Emery and the Spaniard added some much needed fresh air into the club with his arrival. The 47-year-old implemented his philosophy into the club and most of his summer signings hit the ground running at Arsenal. Emery took the Gunners on a 22 game unbeaten run across all competitions early on in the season but suffered a horrendous end to the campaign. A poor run of results towards the back end of the season pushed Arsenal out of the top four and they had to settle for a fifth-place finish on the Premier League table at the end of the season.
The North London side had another chance of qualifying for the elite tournament if they won the Europa League final against local London rivals Chelsea in Baku. However, a 4-1 humiliation against the Blues meant that Arsenal will play in the Europa League once again next season. This proved that Arsenal has a massive task ahead of them in the future and trying to improve the squad and progress further.
However, the Gunners have received another jolt this week as midfield gem Lucas Torreira has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium. The 23-year-old midfielder was one of the better players for Emery last season but has admitted that he is keen on moving to Italy because he prefers his football in the Serie A.
Arsenal is also open to selling the Uruguayan international, as AC Milan are showing interest in his services. The Rossoneri want to snap up the midfielder on a loan deal for two years’ worth £7m and the option to purchase Torreira for £34m. Milan is looking to rebuild this summer transfer window in order to be recognized as one of the best clubs in the European continent and the signing of the tenacious midfielder could be a big blow for Arsenal.
