According to the latest reports, Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi is keen on making a big statement to the club over the summer despite being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. Batshuayi has been pushed further down the pecking order as new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has preferred Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham ahead of the Belgian to lead the attacking line.
Frank Lampard is still looking for his first win as Chelsea manager since taking the job in the summer by replacing Maurizio Sarri. The Italian master tactician spent only one season with Chelsea and helped them to a fourth-place finish on the League table and also won the Europa League. But with the Juventus job opening up at Turin, Sarri decided to return to his native and the Chelsea job opened up.
Lampard has just one season of management as he coached Derby Count in the Championship but was appointed to take up the job at West London, a club where he spent 12 years as a footballer. There was a big buzz around Lampard’s appointment as the 41-year-old is still considered as a club legend among the Chelsea faithful but this fairy tale story has not had a stable beginning so far.
Lampard’s Chelsea traveled to Old Trafford to get handed a 4-0 pasting against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils on the opening day of the Premier League season. Just a few days later, Lampard had the chance to win his first title in his managerial career as Chelsea faced Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul. Despite a better performance, Chelsea lost the trophy on a penalty shootout and this weekend they drew 1-1 against Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.
Although Chelsea is enduring a transfer ban, Lampard can decide on the players that he does not want to keep at the club but admitted that Michy Batshuayi will play a part in the near future. The 25-year-old striker is currently playing with the Chelsea U-23’s but is keen on fighting to regain a starting berth. Batshuayi scored twice in the 3-0 win over the Liverpool U-23’s and clearly sent a message to his new manager if he needs to be called upon.
Batshuayi has been linked with a move away from Chelsea as Serie A club AS Roma is keen on his services on a loan deal. The former Marseille striker arrived at Chelsea back in the summer of 2016 in a £33m deal and was Antonio Conte’s first signing as a manager but he has been sent out on loan on quite a few occasions. The lean center-forward has had loan spells with Borussia Dortmund, Crystal Palace and Valencia over the past three seasons but is now willing to make an impression on Lampard as he is behind Giroud and Abraham on the selection list.
Although the transfer window in the Premier League has come to a close, the European transfer window closes on September 2nd which means that other clubs in the European continent have the opportunity to secure the services of Batshuayi.
