Chelsea Midfielder Attacked By Thugs; What Will Happen Now?

According to the latest reports, Burnley midfielder who is currently on loan from Chelsea, was attacked by a group of thugs outside a nightclub in Manchester. The English midfielder was reportedly trying to chat up another footballer’s girlfriend and was involved in a scuffle with a bunch of thugs which ended in Drinkwater suffering a few injuries.

Drinkwater arrived at Chelsea back in the summer of 2017 from Leicester City in a £32m transfer deal on a five-year contract but failed to establish himself as a regular at Stamford Bridge due to injuries and poor form as well. In his debut season with the Blues, Drinkwater manager to win the FA Cup but following the arrival of Maurizio Sarri in the following season, the English star wasn’t able to register even a single appearance in the League.

Drinkwater’s only appearance for Chelsea came in the Community Shield of 2018. After Frank Lampard was appointed as manager of Chelsea this summer, Drinkwater was told that he wasn’t part of the 41-year-old’s plans anytime soon and Chelsea decided to offload him in the summer to Burnley on a loan deal.

Sean Dyche was delighted at the signing of Drinkwater, as the injury-prone midfielder was set to restart his career with Burnley at Turf Moor until January 2020. However, after making just one League Cup appearance for his new club, Drinkwater will face another spell on the sidelines because of an off-field incident.

In a shocking report, Drinkwater was attacked by a group of thugs in Manchester after he was trying to bed another footballer’s lover. The midfielder was heavily boozing in a nightclub and Drinkwater had a scuffle with fellow professional footballer Kgosi Ntlhe, after the Scunthorpe United player repeatedly told Drinkwater to stop pestering his girlfriend.

The 29-year-old midfielder was heard saying, “I do not care, mate, she is coming home with me”. Security then escorted Drinkwater out of the club, where a group of vicious attackers started beating up the footballer (reason not confirmed yet).

A close source and witness at the scene of the incident stated, “It was incredibly nasty with blood everywhere.” As the six men jumped on Drinkwater and tried to injure him. One of the men repeatedly jumped on Drinkwater’s ankle and the sources said, “At one point he was curled up in a ball on the ground, as they repeatedly jumped up and down on his ankle and shouting, ‘Break his legs’. They knew he was a Premier League star and it was his livelihood. There was blood everywhere, and it was all incredibly nasty.”

Drinkwater was left with a black eye, a swollen face and a torn ankle ligament following the incident including a bruised shoulder and a cut on his cheek. The midfielder will spend around four weeks on the sidelines and the next morning Drinkwater was horrified to see how he looked in the mirror. He realized the trouble he would be in if the Burnley bosses worked out how he had suffered his injuries, though the Blues have left him off the hook rather easy.
