Liverpool 3-1; An Analysis And Talking Points Of A Hard-Fought Win For The Reds

Liverpool

Liverpool continued their hundred percent winning start to the campaign by making five wins out of five with Steve Bruce’s Newcastle, becoming the latest causality at their fortress. That means the Reds have extended their unbeaten record to 14 premier league games and haven’t tasted defeat at Anfield for eight games (22) more than their initial record.

Home fans at Anfield were in for a treat to see their club’s deadly trio put up another stunning show in front of the Kop and they didn’t disappoint. Eyebrows were raised when Newcastle took an unlikely lead through left-back Jetro Williams whose rifling shot beat Adrian easily within seven minutes. However, Liverpool meant business as usual and swiftly took charge of the proceedings by a vicious strike from Sadio Mane past helpless Dubraka.

The goalkeeper was again in the spotlight for wrong reasons as he spilt an overpowered pass from Firmino, for the Senegalese to capitalize and score in the empty net for his second before Salah wrapped up a beautiful move in the second half to make it 3-1. Job done!!!

So, here we look at all the talking points of the game that unfolded sweetly for the home side.

Newcastle unable to contain Klopp’s men

Steve Bruce’s plan to shield off Liverpool’s attack and bring about a result started to pay off in the early minutes as Williams delivered a moment of brilliance but were quickly destroyed by the class of Liverpool, especially at Anfield where they are ruthless. Mane and Salah took up the charge to restore priorities for the Reds while Newcastle struggles to figure out the valiant attacks unleashed at them.

Mane’s quickfire brace with Salah’s strike later in the game confirmed the Magpies’ defeat. This further erodes Bruce’s game plan in the coming days as visits to Stamford Bridge and Wolves are to follow. Moreover, they need to switch to a more attacking set of play, unlike today’s mentality that stunned Spurs a few weeks back.

Mane the game changer; Salah revisiting past

Whenever Liverpool faced a crisis and demanded recovery, the Senegalese became the standout player. That is almost every time to lift his team to its known status. This day was no different.

Mane pulled up his strings in scoring twice in the opening half. It was enough to take the game away from the Black And Whites. He became the perfect game-changer for the Reds. Bruce had no luck whatsoever.

That was after Salah killed the game completely by making it 3-1 after the restart. The Egyptian himself has turned out to be clinical as ever after scoring his fourth of the season. That is all of them scored at home and involved in 50 goals now at Anfield.

Classy Firmino For Liverpool

Last, of all, victory wouldn’t have been comfortable. That is if not Firmino displayed his evergreen class yet again on the pitch. The Brazilian came on the pitch from the bench. That too after being rested due to International commitments earlier in the week.

He replaced the injured Divock Origi. Soon after, the characteristic play that he is so adored for in Klopp’s pressing system, showed its effect. That is as Liverpool fearlessly commit bodies forward.

The Copa America winner in the summer picked up two assists in each half. First out of a dodgy pass to Mane that the opposition keeper spilt. Nothing could be said for the second. A breathtaking back heel in the path of Mo Salah to register three more points on the chart. It helped him extending the reach from Man City lying in the second.
