According to the latest reports, Manchester United fans are still keen on keeping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the manager at the club, despite the poor start to the new season. The Red Devils currently sit in 14th position on the Premier League table and are struggling to make it even in the top six but United fans are prepared to play the long game with Solskjaer.
It’s been a strange few weeks for the United faithful this season as they barely know what to expect from their team anymore. However, the reasons due to this uncertainty started a while ago when Jose Mourinho was sacked last year in December. Solskjaer was appointed as the interim manager initially who was hired just to stabilize the sinking ship but the Norwegian exceeded expectations at the helm and his job were made permanent on a three-year contract after a successful spell.
The results haven’t really gone as expected ever since and despite spending massive sums on transfer fees for new players in the summer, the Red Devils aren’t really picking up the pace. United decided to splash out £80m on Harry Maguire to lure him at Old Trafford from Leicester City, which incidentally made him the world’s most expensive defender. There was another £50m that was spent on right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace and Daniel James was also swooped in from Swansea City.
There were high hopes of this United team for the new season as they smashed fierce rivals Chelsea 4-0 on the opening day of the new Premier League season but they have struggled for goals and consistent performances ever since.
United have failed to score more than one goal in a game ever since and there are serious questions aimed towards the transfer board. The club decided to offload Romelu Lukaku as well as Alexis Sanchez in the summer to Serie A side Inter Milan and the duo was probably the two big names forwards at the club.
United then needed a penalty shootout to overcome Rochdale in the League Cup a few weeks ago and have endured their worst ever start to the new season after nine games. United has gained 10 points from nine games which are their worst start in the Premier League for 30 years. There has also been plenty of speculation over Solskjaer’s future as he is unable to showcase any of his style and brand of football into the players.
Quite surprisingly, the United faithful are prepared to allow Solskjaer some more time to fix up the team as a recent poll was asked about his future. The poll had a question that was asked on social media, “Would you change the MUFC manager right now?’
Yes. I can see no way that he will work. 16.39%.
No. Give him more time. Most problems are not his making. 83.61%
A major part of the United fans still wants to stick by Solskjaer, but he needs to start delivering results. The game against Liverpool at Old Trafford was a really positive result and it may give the team some much-needed confidence for the rest of the season.
