Two top Premier League clubs, Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing Merih Demiral from Juventus. The player has been surplus to manager Maurizio Sarri’s requirements in Turin and has been given the “green signal” to leave the club in January. With that being said, both English clubs have sent their scouts to monitor his performances, as confirmed by Bleacher Report.
The two sides are in need of more defensive reinforcements (especially Arsenal) and an additional centre-back would really help their cause. The player is still just 21 and has a long way to go still. He is quite talented and versatile too, as he can play both at the centre and on the right if needed.
The Story That Involves Both Arsenal And Manchester United
Both the Gunners and the Red Devils have struggled defensively at times and would really love to have some backup. There is a need for squad depth, with the kind of competition that is present in the current day situation. Keeping that in mind, the young Turkish talent could be a good signing for either side.
Unai Emery has already shown his desperation to get in more defenders when he signed David Luiz from Chelsea. Further, the Londoners have also completed the signing of William Saliba, who went back on a season-long loan.
However, the problems at Arsenal are far from over and the club is now considering an additional winter signing. On the other hand, United will also be interested in bringing him in, as they look to offload the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones on a permanent basis.
Though the signing of Harry Maguire has helped their cause, Victor Lindelof’s form has been a matter of concern for the Manchester-based side. Due to this, Solskjaer has been trying to bring in more defensive signings, as he looks to win his first title with United.
Who Will Be Able To Eventually Sign This Top Star?
The best thing about signing Demiral will be that the Italian champs don’t want too much money for him. In fact, they are looking to recoup the £14m they had paid to Sassuolo for him in last summer’s transfer window. Even if there is indeed a bidding war between the two clubs, the asking price won’t be too high.
Due to this, the clubs will be happy to oblige and push for a defender, who can be quite handy. Juve has made it clear that they will let the player leave at the start of the New Year. This has given both the clubs a real boost that they can actually sign him for a decent price.
The player can really make a difference for either team if given the right kind of opportunities to showcase his talents. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to do that in Italy. Despite that, the two English clubs are looking for more long-term prospects and a young Demiral is a player that they can use for their upcoming seasons.
It will be quite interesting to see which club he chooses now and whether things work out for him or not. Only time will tell.
