Match Report: Crystal Palace 1-2 Liverpool; Do The Reds Have Champions’ Luck This Season?

Liverpool cemented their place at the top of the table by securing all three points against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday. It was not an easy match for the Reds as Crystal Palace created a lot of pressure throughout the whole match. However, Liverpool did not succumb to the pressure and somehow managed to snatch a winner at the dying minutes of the match. The Reds are getting narrow wins week and week out in this season so far. So, it might well be their season to lift the Premier League trophy after a long gap.

What Was The Impact Of The Liverpool Players In This Match?

Liverpool missed the service of Mohamed Salah in this match as the player was not completely fit to play. However, Andy Robertson was declared fit to play in this match. In the first half of the match, Liverpool was unable to create a lot of chances.

Crystal Palace’s defence was compact under the leadership of Gary Cahill. James Tomkins’ name should also be included in the list of the players who performed well in the first half for the home side.

Crystal Palace also scored one goal at the 44th minute of the match. James Tomkins’ header went into the goal from the corner of McArthur. However, the goal was ruled out by VAR as a foul was committed before the goal. So, the referee disallowed the goal. The first half ended with a scoreline of 0-0 at Selhurst Park.

The Summary Of The Game As A Whole; Who Did What?

Sadio Mane scored the first goal of the match for Liverpool with a left-footed shot from the pass provided by the star left-back Andrew Robertson. The goal came just after four minutes in the second half of the match.

So, it was holding great importance for the away side to take the lead early in the second half. Crystal Palace was desperate to score at least an equaliser in the remaining minutes of the match. Fabinho was shown a yellow card at the 54th minute of the match for committing a bad foul. Divock Origi was subbed in place of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain at the 64th minute of the match.

On the other hand, Roy Hodgson brought in Martin Kelly in place of injured Joel Ward at the 70th minute of the match. Jeffrey Schlupp was also introduced in place of Cheikhou Kouyate at the 72nd minute of the match.

Christian Benteke was subbed in place of Jordan Ayew a few minutes later. James Milner came in place of Jordan Henderson. Wilfried Zaha finally scored the equaliser for Crystal Palace at the 82nd minute of the match. Andros Townsend provided the ball towards Zaha at that point in time.

However, Liverpool secured all three points from this match. That was as Roberto Firmino scored the winner for Liverpool in the 85th minute of the match. Jürgen Klopp introduced Joe Gomez in place of Roberto Firmino at the 89th minute of the match to seal the match for Liverpool. Liverpool won the match by a margin of 2-1 at the end of 90 minutes and they stayed at the top of the table.
