Jose Mourinho’s Special Tactics For Chelsea Didn’t Really Help His Tottenham Side

Jose Mourinho

The manager of Tottenham Hotspur, Jose Mourinho said that he added some new qualities in the training sessions this week. Tottenham were currently playing really well under the management of Jose Mourinho. The team had got enough rest ahead of their clash against Chelsea. The north Londoners were not playing in the quarter-final round of the Carabao Cup. So, it was a blessing in disguise for them as they would have to play a lot of matches in the Christmas period. So, the rest will certainly help the Portuguese manager to keep his players fresh, along with Mourinho’s special tactics.

Jose Mourinho told that he tried to increase the intensity in the practice sessions. There are several tactical moves, he has implemented in this side. The manager has explained why he has not implemented it just after his arrival. When Jose Mourinho took the managerial job of Tottenham Hotspur, the team had to play two matches every week. So, it was not possible for the manager to put more pressure on the players. The players need at least one day to get back into shape after a match. The recovery time is very much crucial if you have two matches to play in a week. So, it is always better to keep the players relaxed in the training sessions in between.

Again, Tottenham Hotspur would have to play two matches every week and few breaks will be there. Jose Mourinho will try to utilize those breaks to implement his own strategy in this team. Generally, Jose Mourinho’s side likes to play with their defence intact. However, things are going something different at Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have few great attacking players like Harry Kane, Son Heung Min, Dele Alli and Lucas Moura. That might be a reason why Tottenham Hotspur are playing an open style of football so far. However, Jose Mourinho is trying to improve the defensive organisation of his team.

Jan Vertonghen is playing as left-back at this moment. He has played as a centre back in previous few seasons at Tottenham Hotspur as well as for his national side Belgium. However, he has started his career as a left-back. So, Jan Vertonghen will be able to provide the much needed defensive stability. Jose Mourinho has told that they would need to play good football to compete against a top side like Chelsea.

The match is going to be really important on both sides. Chelsea are currently at the fourth position in the League table with 29 points in 17 matches so far. On the other hand,  Tottenham Hotspur are just behind Chelsea in the League table. They had collected 26 points in 17 matches. Tottenham Hotspur were playing really well after the arrival of the former Blues and Manchester United boss as their manager. Despite that, Mourinho’s special tactics failed to leave its mark.

On the other hand, Chelsea had not been playing well in the last few matches. The Blues have been able to win only one match out of last five matches. So, a bad result against Tottenham Hotspur was certainly detrimental for them.

It was an important match that they played this weekend. Spurs were beaten at home 2-0, in yet another edition of the London derby. However, the win was sweeter due to the “Mourinho factor”.
