Match Report: How Liverpool’s Young Talented Wards Failed To Make A Major Impact

Aston Villa trashed Liverpool’s young talents by a margin of 5-0 in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. It was the young Liverpool side who played against Villa in the Carabao Cup as the senior side of Liverpool will play in the Club World Cup on Wednesday. The average age of this Liverpool side was almost 19 years and 182 days.

The Story Of The Game Dominated By Liverpool’s Young Stars

It is the youngest squad in the history of Liverpool in any competitive match. Aston Villa also came with their second stringed squad to play in this match at Villa Park. Only one or two players were involved in the clash against Sheffield United at the weekend. However, Aston Villa’s second-string side was also much stronger than Liverpool’s squad for this match. So, the result was obviously on the cards.

The manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp knew that the fixture problem would arise at this point in time. So, he played a second-string Liverpool’s young side blending with few senior players against Arsenal in the round of 16 of this competition. However, the match between Liverpool and Arsenal was really entertaining. It finished with a scoreline of 5-5 after the end of regulation time. In the penalty shootout, Liverpool clinched the victory to qualify for the next round. After that, there was a big problem rescheduling the fixture of Liverpool as there was no date free for the Reds in the congested schedule. So, the club management decided to field a young side in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

Conor Hourihane scored the first goal for Aston Villa at the 14th minute of the match. Morgan Boynes’ own goal gave them a double goal advantage. Jonathan Kodjia almost finished all the hope this young Liverpool side by scoring the third goal for Aston Villa at the 37th minute of the match.

The ball was provided by Jota at the time of this third goal. Isaac-Christie Davies was shown a yellow card at the 41st minute of the match. The young Liverpool side could not handle the pressure of the big game like that. Jonathan Kodjia added another one in his tally at the injury time of the first half of the match. This time the ball was provided by Ahmed El-Mohamady. The first half ended with a scoreline of 4-0 at Villa Park in favour of Aston Villa.

Ki-Jana Hoever picked up an injury and he was replaced by James Norris at the 82nd minute of the match. Finally, Wesley sealed the win for Aston Villa at the injury time of the second half with another goal. This time Trezeguet assisted for the goal. The match ended with a scoreline of 5-0 in favour of Aston Villa. However, Liverpool youngsters especially Harvey Eliott and Pedro Chirivella played really well throughout the whole match.
