Report: How West Ham Managed To Shock Favourites Chelsea In The London Derby

Lampard Chelsea

West Ham Shocked Chelsea on Saturday in the London Derby as the Hammers were victorious against the Blues by a margin of 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. It was a big defeat for Chelsea as they suffered two back to back defeats in the Premier League after the International Break.

The Story Of The Game That West Ham Won Against Chelsea

Frank Lampard changed his side quite a bit in this match. Still, the players looked fatigued throughout the whole game. Chelsea will have to play two matches every single week throughout this whole month. We have to watch out how they cope up with this challenge under the management of Frank Lampard.

Frank Lampard brought in Pedro, Olivier Giroud, Mason Mount and Emerson Palmieri in this match against West Ham United. It was shocking to see N’Golo Kante in the bench. On the other hand, Tammy Abraham was injured. So, he was not part of the squad. Michy Batshuayi deserved to get a start against West Ham United considering his performance this season.

However, Lampard kept faith in his experienced campaigner Olivier Giroud. Willian was continuously playing for the Blues. So, his omission from the starting lineup was justified. However, Callum Hudson Odoi did not come into the team in his place. Instead of that, Pedro got the chance to show his class from the right-wing.

What A Brilliant Game The London Derby Produced!!

From the beginning of the match, Chelsea had better possession in the match. However, they were not able to penetrate the defensive unit of West Ham United. In the final third, Chelsea were really poor. The first half ended with a scoreline of 0-0 at Stamford Bridge.

In the second half of the match, West Ham United got the most important lead in the match at the 48th minute. Aaron Cresswell placed the ball perfectly into the goal with a curved shot. Kepa Arrizabalaga had no chance to save that shot. Pablo Forlans provided the ball towards Aaron Cresswell at that time.

Willian and N’Golo Kante were introduced by Frank Lampard at the 63rd minute of the match. Pedro and Jorginho were taken off the field. West Ham United started to dominate the game. Kepa made a few good saves to keep Chelsea in the game. Michail Antonio’s goal was disallowed at the 69th minute of the match.

Can Chelsea Recover From This Loss And Fight Back To Make An Impact?

Manuel Pellegrini’s side was underperforming in the last few matches. They went to the relegation zone. So, the players gave their all to get back into the match. At the 71st minute of the match, Frank Lampard took off Olivier Giroud and introduced Callum Hudson-Odoi in the field. So, there was no recognized centre forward for the Blues in the last 20 minutes of the match. It was certainly a wrong move as Michy Batshuyai could have snatched at least one point for the Blues on Saturday.

Frank Lampard told that the result of the match was a reality check for them. The players would need to learn from their mistakes and deliver well from the next match. Chelsea will face Aston Villa on Wednesday in the Premier League.
