The Belgian striker, Michy Batshuayi is out of favour for Frank Lampard’s side after just starting in six games in 24 appearances in all competitions scoring just six goals this season. Batshuayi joined the Blues in the summer of 2016 from French side Marseille for £33m and has scored some important goals for them which would be remembered in the history of the Londoners. The Chelsea superstar spent some loan spells at Valencia, Borussia Dortmund, and Crystal Palace between his spell in West London.
Last season he spent xi months in Palace scoring six times in 11 games for Roy Hodgson’s side but they would expect to sign him back permanently for a lower fee. Chelsea have set a £45m price tag on their striker who is approaching his peak years.
Tammy Abraham, Chelsea’s academy graduate has been the first choice for Chelsea this season but has scored only 14 goals in all competitions. Batshuayi had his chances though but he failed to prove himself in those limited opportunities. Giroud, almost a forgotten man this term came back into the team and currently he is the first choice to lead Chelsea’s attack. Last weekend against Everton the Chelsea superstar scored again while Michy was an unused sub.
Michy has reportedly told his friends that he wants to stay in London and love the city, so this might help Palace to get his signature. On Sunday, even after scoring four past Everton, Lampard preferred to bring in another Chelsea youngster Armando Borja for his Premier League debut and Batshuayi was again an unused sub.
In February, his performance against Manchester United at home where the blues lost 2-0 is a highlight that Lampard might get it tough to trust in his Belgian striker again. Tammy Abraham who is currently injured, Olivier Giroud has been preferred to lead the Chelsea attack and has been a better performer than the rest so far.
Batshuayi has only a year left on his Chelsea contract and the Eagles are seriously looking for a striker for next season as they are struggling to score goals. Palace have scored only 26 times this term and it is the third-worst in the top flight of English football and they are currently sitting at 11th in the table. This situation might help for them to get their man in a low transfer fee as it is not expected for Michy to renew his contract for the Blues.
The performances this season will affect his chances to be the first choice for his national side in the Euros as well with Romelu Lukaku is doing great under Antonio Conte at Inter Milan. In the last couple of seasons, he has shown his skills and class though while playing for Dortmund.
Batshuayi who is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and also in Europe might be the best option for Crystal Palace to strengthen their attack for the next season. He has not been able to be a hit at Stamford Bridge over the years. Hence, the best option is to leave now and restart his career.
