Chelsea And Manchester United Target Gives An Update On His Future

Chelsea and Manchester United want Wilson? Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson has opened up on why he feels he does not deserve to be linked with bigger Premier League clubs. The 28-year-old England international has said that it is ”flattering” to be linked to the likes of Chelsea or Manchester United. Despite that, he also said that he does not deserve that.

Wilson told the media: ”Last season my performances were consistent and when there were links, I tried to stay at a certain level and play well. Any player would like to play in the Champions League and progress, that is what I have based my whole career on.”

“First and foremost is obviously keeping Bournemouth up and safe and I have not been good enough this season to even be talking about things like that.”

Gianfranco Zola Admits Callum Wilson Is 'of Interest' to Chelsea ...

“I put it to the back of my mind and tried to focus on myself. Despite scoring 14 times last campaign, he has seen a major slump in his form this season and has been pretty inconsistent in front of goal.”

The Problems Keep Growing For Wilson

The Englishman has also admitted that if he wants to grab a place in the Three Lions’ squad for the Euros, he will have to step up for that. So far this campaign, Chelsea star Tammy Abraham has outperformed him. Along with that Southampton’s Danny Ings and Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin are both heaping pressure on the 28-year-old.

Struggling Bournemouth are currently in the relegation zone. With all football currently suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, games will be further postponed past April 30th.

Just before the suspension decision was made, Eddie Howe’s men lost to Burnley. They further drew with Chelsea and lost to Liverpool. This was bad and it demonstrated their lacklustre stance in the competition.

What Will Happen Next?

However, they eagerly await to hear when the season will get back underway. Wilson has done well to come up from League One to top-flight football. The England international has been capped four times for the country. Now, he also hopes to make it into the postponed Euro 2021 tournament.

The star said: “To be honest, I have the ability and the belief in myself to be able to play for these clubs and the national team. I have not been consistent enough with good performances this season. But I have no doubt that when the season gets going again. Or if it is next season, I will pick up.”

He is a top player who has just had a bad season. It is natural for players to see a dip in form, some time in their career. However, the best ones always recover on time and make an impact. Such are the expectations from Wilson, who did fairly well before the lockdown.

It doesn’t seem that the season will restart any time soon. With that being said, the English attacker could be heading to a new club soon. The summer window is almost upon us. It will be interesting to see which club ends up signing him. Bournemouth are keen to sell and hopefully, things work out for all parties.
