Latest Update On The Future Of Chelsea Star Willian; Arsenal And Tottenham Keen To Sign?

Chelsea

Willian is all set to leave Chelsea this summer after a memorable seven years at the west London club. The 31-year-old winger has been a loyal servant to the club and will be a part of Chelsea’s history. The recent contract situation did not go as planned. Chelsea rejected Willian’s demand of three years extension saying it is impossible. The Blues were ready to break the club policy of giving one-year contract extensions to the players aged over 30. They offered Willian a two years contract but the Brazilian is not happy with it.

However, he is not worried about anymore. The player is more concerned over the coronavirus pandemic situation which has stopped all the leagues across Europe.

What Willian Said?

“I want to give everything for Chelsea until the end like I always did, until the end of my contract, until the end of the league. Football without fans is no fun. I have heard that we could return with closed gates, with no public in the stadiums. If it is necessary and if we must play for the good of all, it must be done.”

“My only thought is that it will pass soon and that it will end with everyone well, with health – and everything will return to normal. It can not be any different. It is a disease that stopped the world and interrupted what we know and loves to do: play football. But at the same time, we understand that it is for the greater good, for the health of millions of people.”

Several clubs in England are interested to sign him this summer, including Arsenal and Spurs. Willian is happy and settled with his family in London. Due to this, he wants to stay in the city. Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho admires the player.

Willian was one of the few players at Chelsea who were the first name on the team sheet. The Portuguese wants a reunion with the player to boost his attack next season.

The Final Verdict

Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal are still watching the situation closely and they are not giving up hope to sign him. Barcelona is a club who has been long time admirer of the player and tried to sign him in each of the last two summers but Willian rejected both the offers.

The Catalan club can get their man this summer if their pursuit of getting Neymar fails. This has to be said that the Chelsea fans have been quiet on this matter. Several players got sticks and were criticized heavily for running down the contract. Also, they were pointed out for leaving the club on a free transfer. Willan is doing something similar and also is linked to join London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.

However, the Brazilian has one or two years still left in him to play at the highest level. His experience in English football will help him at any club in England who signs him. Keeping that in mind, both Tottenham and Arsenal are keen to add him to their squad. Only time will tell who eventually does get him.
