Paul Pogba Is Similar To Steven Gerrard: Paul Scholes

Pogba

Manchester United star midfielder Paul Pogba is similar to former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard. This is according to claims made by Manchester United legend Paul Scholes. Pogba has missed the majority of the season through injury and faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

His contract is set to expire at the end of next season. Although the Red Devils have the option to extend it for a further season, it doesn’t seem likely.

Despite all his talent and his achievements, he has continued to remain a divisive figure at Old Trafford. The Frenchman has failed to live up to the expectations at the club. He is now a World Cup winner and one of the most recognizable players on the planet. Despite that, questions of his form, fitness and future are never far away.

The Frenchman recently hit back at Liverpool legend Graeme Souness for the constant criticism of his ability. He further vowed to help United win trophies on his return to full fitness.

Scholes played alongside Pogba during his early years at United prior to his switch to Juventus. Former United captain Nemanja Vidic revealed the former England international would often subject the Frenchman to rough treatment. This was just to toughen him up following his move from the youth team.

Why Paul Scholes remains English football's most undervalued talent

What Scholes Said

Nevertheless, Scholes was full of praise for his former team-mate. He believes he resembles former Liverpool skipper and his former England team-mate, Steven Gerrard, in many ways.

“I played a bit with Paul and everyone knows the talent he’s got,” Scholes told the UTD Podcast.

“He is been brilliant for Juventus, brilliant for France in the World Cup and really good at times here [at United ] as well. He can do everything as a midfield player and you would probably liken him to Steven Gerrard with the pace, the power, the skill. Pogba can do absolutely everything.”

Pogba recently revealed what he learnt from playing alongside the Manchester United legend at Old Trafford. He said: “You learn a lot and you look at them. I really learned and have been learning. It was unbelievable for me, seeing them training like that, and it pushed me. Okay, I have to work hard and have a lot more to do. Pirlo and Scholes, those are midfielders who control the game, the players to look at, and I learned from them, a lot.”

Paul Pogba Says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Should Get Full-Time ...

The Paul Pogba Update

The problem now is that Manchester United is still looking for a buyer for Paul Pogba. Juventus may not be interested in signing him anymore. Hence, the Red Devils might look at Real Madrid to make the buy.

The transfer market could also take a major hit due to the pandemic. Due to this, the clubs across the globe may not have the big-budget to spend. If that happens, Pogba will be forced to spend the upcoming campaign at Old Trafford.

This could be bad news for both the player and the club. The Manchester-based club will try to get a deal done, as they don’t really need his services. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has enough players to fill the midfield void. He might even bring in some young talents in the summer transfer window. Things could get really interesting.
