The Blues (Chelsea) are targeting Southampton shot-stopper to be their second choice goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge next season. Fraser Forster has been a star for the Saints and is currently on loan at Celtic. Foster would be available for £10m this summer. The 32-year-old has been impressive too for the Scottish club and was a key part for their unbeaten 10 games streak. Former Celtic player Shaun Maloney told PLZ Soccer, that the club should be looking to sign him permanently for the seasons to come.
“Signing Fraser, was huge. He was just an enormous presence – and in big games, against Lazio and in the Rangers cup final. So, if they can get him back it would be a huge signing.”
“(The price) seems to be an issue. But I am really hoping they can bring him back.”
Caballero And His Future At Chelsea
Chelsea’s first-choice keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been inconsistent throughout this season. The club’s record signing joined the Blues in the summer of 2018 for a world record £71m fee from Athletic Bilbao. The world’s most expensive keeper had to sit on the bench for seven straight games because of his poor form. 38-years-old Willy Caballero was preferred in his place and did quite well. The Argentinean was delighted to get a one-year contract extension recently and thanked his boss for showing trust in him.
In an interview when he joined the club, Caballero had told the club’s website, “I am very happy to make this announcement. It is a privilege to be part of this Chelsea squad and the Chelsea family, at one of the most historic clubs in the Premier League.”
“It is a difficult time for everyone right now so I feel blessed by this opportunity and truly appreciate it. I want to thank my team-mates for helping me to be my best and I want to thank the boss and the club for extending my contract.”
“Am sure they will continue to demand the maximum from me and I will compete with the same energy as always. I am very happy.”
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was happy to see Caballero staying for another year. The former Manchester City keeper, who arrived at Chelsea in 2017 as a free agent made 33 appearances for the Blues.
What Did Lampard Say?
The former midfielder stated, “I trust in Willy, he trains brilliantly and is a great professional. He stepped into the team earlier this year and showed his quality, and his experience is invaluable in the dressing room. I am actually delighted he will be with us next season.”
Caballero was not signed to be as a first-choice keeper for the Blues. In his first season, he was the second choice to Thibaut Courtois who is currently at Real Madrid. However, there is surely a need for more additional signings at the club.
Keeping that in mind, it could be a great decision to have another keeper at the west London outfit. The club is really looking to add some quality and wants to be title contenders soon. Due to this, they have been buying some key stars. These players will add more quality to the squad and improve Chelsea’s play.
