Former Manchester United boss has reportedly said that the current Red Devils boss is out of his depth in his job. Jose Mourinho was sacked by the Manchester club in the midway of 2018-19 season after a poor run of form of United that year. However, it is still a doubt that Ole gunner Solksker is the right man at Manchester United or not. The next few weeks are going to be crucial for him and United.
Both Manchester United and Tottenham are chasing qualification for next season’s Champions League. Mourinho’s side is at eighth in the Premier League and four points behind Manchester United who are on fifth. Both sides are going against each other this Friday in a crucial encounter in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur stadium. When these two sides met earlier in this season, Mourinho’s side got beaten 2-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Special One’s Latest Comments
Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes that there should be no pressure at Soljker. If United can qualify for next season’s Champions League, his job will be safe. He had said this before the Spurs game, as his former clubs went head-to-head.
“It is so important for Manchester United to finish in the top four. It will not be easy, but they need to do it. The first game against Tottenham is so important, they need to take their chance.”
“If they qualify for the Champions League then next season will be huge. It will give confidence to the manager and cement him in the job. A Champions League spot will entice players to play for him, so I hope they qualify,” he said.
Berbatov, who won two Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford, says Tottenham’s task to finish in the top four is tougher than United despite only 4 points are separating the sides at the moment. Undoubtedly Mourinho is a far superior coach that Soljsker and he will put everything for Spurs to qualify for Europe next season.
“I think the board has faith in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and that is the most important thing. I am sure they speak constantly, they give him the confidence to build and use young players,” Berbatov said in an interview with Betfair.
What Jose Mourinho Further Added?
“He should not be seen as a transitional figure anymore, it is disrespectful. I want them to take that spot for Ole. Paul Pogba is back, and if they all stay fit for nine games, that will help.”
On Spurs, Jose Mourinho added: “I hope Spurs finish as high up as possible, they are far off fourth but they could surprise people. If next season is a normal one, as we hope, then they can prove themselves properly.”
Manchester United was on the five-game unbeaten run before the COVID-19 lockdown. It came at the wrong time for them. However, this break has improved the squads as many key players have returned to fitness. Tottenham got Harry Kane and Huen-min Son back fit. United have Paul Pogba back among the squad fully fit which will certainly strengthen the United midfield.
