Everyone would agree that this season hasn’t been the greatest for Chelsea. Some people can argue with some reasons like the exit of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid, summer transfer ban has made an impact on the results of the last term. The young academy graduates still need some time to deliver.
After the successful appeal, the winter transfer window is there for the London club to re-enforce their squad who are still competing in three major cup competitions. Attack has been a major issue for Lampard’s side as they are struggling to score goals and finish off games.
They are losing points more at home than away as well and this is a major concern. Frank Lampard and his club are yet to sign a player in this window that is getting closed on Friday.
Here we are looking at some options whom Chelsea can get to strengthen the squad for now-
3. Wilfried Zaha:
The Crystal Palace winger is keen on a move because at this stage of his career he wants to move to a big club that has chances to win trophies. Zaha (27) is at the peak of his career and has a contract at Palace till 2023. Crystal Palace would want a high fee for their player but a swap+money deal with Giroud or Batshuayi can make the deal.
Last season Zaha scored ten goals and providing five assists in the Premier League for Palace and that’s a decent number for a winger. With, the Blues currently having wingers like Pedro and Willian ageing over 30+, Zaha would be a good buy for them.
2. Isco:
There have been questions about the Spanish International winger’s career at Madrid after he has fallen out of favour of Zidane’s First XI. There are a few links and reports are coming out about his potential move to the West London side who needs some fresh quality in attack.
Isco has made just 13 appearances for Real Madrid so far this season. He was also seen in London recently with his family and that may create some hopes for the Chelsea supporters but should the player become available, the blues can fight for his signature.
1. Dries Mertens:
Chelsea has made an inquiry about The 32-year-old Belgian who has been a goal machine for Napoli. Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi haven’t been consistent in front of the goal and Lampard can look to solve this problem temporarily after landing Martens from Italian side Napoli.
The versatile striker, who can play also in the right or left of the attacking three and has scored 191 goals since 2013 for Napoli is one of the best forwards at the moment. Although the player’s age can make the deal in cheap, it will be tough for Napoli to sell their striker as they are also looking for a run in the Champions League and facing Barcelona in the last 16.
What next for Chelsea?
Chelsea has been dropping some key points in recent weeks. They already lost the game to Arsenal. Further, they went on to draw the match against Aston Villa. Things don’t look that great for Frank Lampard and co. Hopefully, the team can change things around for them. Only time will tell what happens in the days to come.
P.S.: The stats are based on what the players did last season and the performances they had put in till then.
