Manchester United got crucial three points on the road against a quality Wolverhampton side who gave them many headaches throughout the 90 mins. It was also Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 100th game in charge of Red Devils and they got their first away win this season on his landmark game. Mason Greenwood scored the winner for United which was his third goal in the current campaign.
Despite getting all three points, Solskjaer’s side was not at their attacking best. The United boss says his team did not create a lot of chances but the clean sheet will boos David De Gea’s confidence who was excellent in the game and made some crucial saves.
What were the comments made by Solskjaer about the win for Manchester United?
“We are happy. Great result. Both could have won it. Of course, we were under pressure for a spell but we had most of the possession I reckon. It was not the prettiest game but it was a game for everyone to watch. There is was excitement in both boxes. The crowd was there, with some passion. Finally, we have got our game back.”
“They had maybe a little bit more than us. We did not create too much today but then we have got a good goalkeeper as well. David has found his determination, desire and he has come back with loads of energy. You can see that in him, in the work he is doing every single day. The second save [from Saiss] from that corner is special. That has not just hit him. It is a reaction and he has had a strong arm to it.”
Let us look at the talking points from the game at Molineux, for the game that Manchester United won-
Neves showed why Manchester United actually need him
Ruben Neves was superb against one of his potential suitors in this transfer window. United are looking for a number 6 and Neves showed once again that the red devils can count on him. Neves made a number of key passes as Wolves threatened De Gea’s goal.
Another class performance from Traore
Adama Traore had another good outing. The 25-year-old forward put constant pressure on United’s defence as well as their midfield trio which includes Fred, Pogba and Bruno Fernandes. He is linked with a move to Tottenham where his former boss Nuno Espirito Santo is the current manager.
Full debuts for new signings – Sancho and Varane
New signings Jadon Sancho and Rafael Varane made their full debuts under Solskjaer. The £45m defenders earned a hard-fought clean sheet. On the other hand, Sancho is still struggling to cope with the pace of Premier League football.
Solskjaer’s 100th game results in a win
The Norwegian boss had a tough start to life at Old Trafford but with time he has developed the side quite well. In the second half of last season, United improved their results drastically to earn their spot in the top four. With Cristian Ronaldo set to boost the attacking line, Solskjaer will have everything to win a trophy with United. The 36-year-old forward has recently arrived from Juventus to add some firepower.
