Manchester City Intent On Signing Darwin Nunez; A Player That FC Barcelona Wants

Manchester City

Darwin Nunez, the emerging star from Benfica, is expected to be signed by Manchester City for a price of £70m, according to reports.

As reported by the Daily Star, the battle to sign SL Benfica striker Darwin Nunez is heating up. The attacker is emerging as one of the most highly sought-after players on the market. Manchester City and FC Barcelona, in particular, are among the teams vying for his signature in the near future. Both clubs are bidding for his services.

Because of their good connection with Benfica, City feels considerably more confident in their ability to sign Nunez. After all, the reigning English champions had just recruited Ederson and Ruben Dias, while players such as Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo had previously represented the Portuguese giants before their transfer to the Etihad Stadium.

Darwin Nunez, a native of Artigas, Brazil, was already one of the most exciting young talents in South American football going into the new season. This was due to a spectacular first season at Benfica.

A season in which he was involved 16 league goals in his first season. He has now maintained his outstanding record in front of goals throughout the 2021/22 season. He has already scored four goals in five league appearances thus far.

However, it was his performance against FC Barcelona that cemented his position as a highly sought-after talent in the market. He was one of the standout players for Benfica in their 3-0 victory against Barcelona. That too particularly when he scored a spectacular brace to secure all three points for his side.

Barcelona and other clubs are competing for the services of the Uruguayan international as a result of his impressive display. The 22-year-old has already shown his capacity to play at the top level of football, but they may be in for even more disappointment as Manchester City ratchet up their chase of him.

Nunez presently has a release clause at Benfica worth around £125m, but the Citizens are confident in their ability to sign him for as little as £70m in the near future. It seems that the kid, who is a centre striker by trade, may eventually show himself to be Sergio Aguero’s chosen successor in the coming years.

Darwin Nunez- A hot prospect

Manchester City, on the other hand, has no lack of available options. After all, they are one of the leading candidates to acquire Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund next summer. They have maintained their interest in Harry Kane despite a shaky start to the season.

Guardiola is also open to investigating other possibilities. That is including the signing of Dusan Vlahovic, a promising young player from Fiorentina. A player who has shown an interest in joining him at the Etihad. However, with a significant portion of the season yet to be played. Manchester City will most likely be patient with their approach before settling on a priority target for next summer’s transfer window.

City, on the other hand, will face strong competition from Chelsea and Manchester United. That is in their pursuit of the striker. The Blues are facing a perilous position over the future of Timo Werner. Manchester United are also going to be potentially losing Edinson Cavani in the near future, respectively. Nonetheless, the Citizens are optimistic in their ability to beat Chelsea and Manchester United to Nunez’s signing, and so secure his services.
