Real Madrid Interested To Re-Sign Tottenham Star

Real Madrid is allegedly interested in re-signing Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, but at a lower price than the €40m buyback option in his contract with the English club.

According to a rumour from Transfer Market Web, Real Madrid are interested in bringing back former defender Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur. They want to do so during the summer transfer window of the following year.

Reguilon, a product of the Real Madrid academy from his playing days, made his first-team debut in 2018. That was under then-manager Julen Lopetegui. He made a positive impression. However, after the appointment of Zinedine Zidane as manager towards the conclusion of the season, the left-back’s chances were curtailed.

Reguilon spent the next season on loan at Sevilla. That is where he assisted them in winning the UEFA Europa League. Despite his efforts, Reguilon was unable to persuade Zidane to give him a permanent position in the Real Madrid squad. When he was 24, he was transferred to Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window of the previous year. It was a decision that the Spanish capital club is now reported to be regretting.

While Los Blancos have captain Marcelo as a left-back option, the Brazilian’s form has deteriorated dramatically in recent years. He has resigned himself to becoming a peripheral player who is being linked with a move away from the club in recent months. Ferland Mendy, on the other hand, has been plagued by ailments since the tail end of the previous season. There have even been reports that incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti does not like him and might be open to selling the company.

In such a situation, Real Madrid would be left with just the youthful Miguel Gutierrez as a legitimate left-back in the team. The rest of the squad will be consisting of inexperienced players. While David Alaba has been used as a centre-back, where he has performed well, utility player Nacho Fernandez is also reaching the end of his playing career. As a result, the Merengues will need to sign a new left-sided full-back in the summer.

In addition, according to the aforementioned source, they are looking into the possibility of re-signing Reguilon. Since joining Tottenham in 2013, the 24-year-old has made 45 appearances. He provided seven assists in the process. He has made some mistakes along the road. Overall, he has proved to be an excellent acquisition for the Lilywhites. He has also been called up to the Spain national team roster as a result.

A repurchase clause for Reguilon was included by Real Madrid. That is something they do with most of their homegrown players when they sell them. The buyback clause for Reguilon is worth €40m.

They are, according to the source, reluctant to match that amount. The club wants to negotiate a lesser price with Tottenham for the 24-year-old. Los Blancos are hoping that their positive connection with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy would assist them in reaching a lower settlement figure.

Reguilon’s future with Real Madrid remains to be seen. The club is deciding whether or not to pursue him during the summer transfer window of next season.
