Bayern Munich is allegedly interested in signing Real Madrid and former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as a long-term successor for Manuel Neuer. Courtois is now on the team’s wishlist.
According to a report from El Nacional, Bayern Munich, the reigning German champions, have set their eyes on Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as they search for a successor for club captain Manuel Neuer in the transfer market.
In 2018, Real Madrid acquired Courtois from Premier League heavyweights Chelsea for a fee of €35m. Courtois has been with the club since then. The Belgian international had a difficult first season at the Santiago Bernabeu, as he was unable to win over the supporters because of his previous association with local rivals Atletico Madrid, where he had spent three years on loan.
Courtois has been an important part of the current Real Madrid team
But as time has progressed, Courtois has established himself as a staple in the Real Madrid lineup. He has done so while also establishing himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the world at the moment.
For Real Madrid, the 29-year-old has made 144 appearances, surrendering just 39 goals. That he has done while maintaining 57 clean sheets. He has also won three La Liga titles, one Spanish Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup during his time in Spain.
Chelsea has taken note of Thibaut Courtois’ progress into one of the most dependable goalkeepers in Europe, with Bayern Munich now taking a keen interest in the 93-times capped Belgian international.
The German Champions is on the search for a long-term successor for a veteran goalkeeper and club captain Manuel Neuer. The renowned German goalkeeper is nearing the end of his historic career. He will need to be eased out of the first-team picture in order to be replaced with a younger, top-class alternative in the near future.
The former Chelsea keeper, on the other hand, has suddenly emerged as the primary target for the Bundesliga winners
Bayern Munich signed Alexander Nubel last year with the intention of developing him into the club’s long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer. However, things have not gone as planned for Nubel in Bavaria, and he will now join AS Monaco on a two-year loan deal beginning this summer. As a result, the German Rekordmeister must seek and recruit a new world-class goalkeeper to take over for their existing leader as soon as possible.
A bid for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been discussed in the past, with the Catalans allegedly open to the idea of selling their star player. Courtois, on the other hand, has suddenly emerged as the primary target for the Bundesliga winners in terms of a long-term replacement for Neuer. A transfer for the Real Madrid superstar, on the other hand, seems unlikely to take place.
Courtois is content and at ease in his new home at Real Madrid, and he even signed a new deal with the club earlier this year, which will keep him with the club until the summer of 2026. As a result, a transfer to the Allianz Arena for the Belgian international next summer seems to be an improbable possibility.
