GT vs PBKS IPL 2022: Ajay Jadeja, a former Indian cricketer, voiced his amazement at Mayank Agarwal’s choice to demote himself in the batting order for the team’s match against the Gujarat Titans on Tuesday. When the Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain decided to elevate Jonny Bairstow to partner with Shikhar Dhawan, he did not bat for the whole of the IPL 2022 match.
Even after the Englishman was dismissed early, Bhanuka Rajapaksa entered the fray at No. 3 to form a left-handed duet for the second wicket. The pair put up a crucial 87-run partnership on a slow surface while chasing 144 runs. It helped them win by eight wickets in the last match.
Ajay Jadeja said on Cricbuzz that he believes the revised batting unit is more balanced than before
“I was not anticipating Mayank to be demoted to the bottom of the pecking order. That is a significant choice for a captain to make. If you look at what is best for him, the opening slot is the ideal choice. But if you look at the team’s resources, this batting order includes players coming in one by one after that,” Jadeja said.
Since taking over as captain of the PBKS, the captain has not been in the runs. So far, he has only scored 161 runs in nine innings. He has an average of 20.13 runs per inning.
Pragyan Ojha believes that Agarwal is better suited for the No. 3 position and has said as follows:
“Mayank Agarwal is a versatile character that may be employed in many different situations. I believe he will come in at No. 3 and that the pattern will stay the same. But that the duties will be somewhat different from one another. If Punjab maintains their winning streak, it would seem that there are no teams better than them.”
Earlier in his career, the 27-year-old batted at No. 3 in the order when KL Rahul and Chris Gayle took over the opening positions.
GT vs PBKS IPL 2022: In response to Mayank Agarwal’s choice not to bat at the top, Pragyan Ojha said, “It was a mature thing to do.”
Except for a handful of starts, the PBKS captain hasn’t had much to show for his efforts this season. Although Bairstow struggled at the top of the order, the team is likely to stick with the same tactics as it heads into the final stretch of the season.
Ojha praised Mayank Agarwal’s choice, calling it “mature.” He went on to say:
“I feel that if you open with Bairstow in the shortest format, he will provide you with starts. This fits nicely with the kind of cricket that Punjab is playing. As a result, it was a wise decision. Mayank saw that he was not getting the runs. So he took a break from the game. It was a mature decision on his part. If you continue to play after a certain amount of time, you will get psychologically trapped. I believe he should be inserted at No.3. Bairstow should be given more opportunities at the top. Punjab will not turn back if he does well in that spot.”
The Punjab Kings (PBKS) will play their next match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 7 at the Wankhede Stadium (Saturday).
