Latest Arsenal News: Simon Jordan feels that the signing of a new contract by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on Friday (May 6) is a non-event. According to him, the future of the Spaniard at the club is still up in the air. It might go either way depending on how things turn out next season.
The ink was put to paper on new contracts for Arteta and Jonas Eidevall on Friday. Thus, tying them to the club until the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Both were recognized for turning things around at the Emirates and bringing the Gunners back to the European Championships.
Latest Arsenal News: What did Simon say?
Simon, on the other hand, believes that the deal will be of little value if Arsenal does not do well in the next season. He made the allegation on talkSPORT, claiming that if things go wrong and he is fired shortly, the manager would just wind up with more money in his pocket.
“It’s a purely intellectual exercise. I believed he was deserving of another year. If Arsenal makes it farther in the Premier League next season, he’ll be there. If they have a bad season next year, the only thing that will happen is that he will get more money as a result of being fired. As a result, I believe it to be of little significance,” Simon said.
Arsenal offered contracts even though they had suffered three consecutive losses, according to Arteta
While Simon Jordan feels the additional contracts are pointless, the club wants to demonstrate how much they trust him by signing them. When asked about the new contract, Arteta said that the club had placed the offer on the table after their three consecutive Premier League losses in April.
He made the following statement on the club’s official website:
“After we had lost three games in a row, the club approached me about a new contract. That doesn’t happen in football, unfortunately. What they believe, what I say, and the confidence they have in me, the coaching staff, and in what we’re doing are all influenced by their thoughts and feelings.”
He went on to say:
“Seeing the individuals who now own and govern this football club for the first time was an emotional experience for me. I had never seen them before and was overcome with emotion when I did. I merely said that these men are serious and devoted. Therefore I should proceed with caution.”
Arsenal is still in contention for one of the two remaining Champions League slots this season. They are presently in fourth place. Arsenal is now involved in a battle with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues are third in the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur is fifth. Arsenal is three points behind Chelsea and two points ahead of Tottenham in the Premier League.
Arteta took over as Arsenal manager from Unai Emery in December of 2019 and has had early success. He won the FA Cup only six months after taking over.
