Reports say that Arsenal and Real Madrid will both try to sign Cody Gakpo, a 23-year-old Dutch attacker who plays for PSV Eindhoven
According to a report from the Spanish news site Fichajes, Arsenal is interested in making a move for Cody Gakpo in the summer of 2023. Real Madrid is also interested in the Dutch forward. PSV Eindhoven is likely to ask for more than €50 million for him.
Cody Gakpo had a great last year, which has made him a hot commodity on the market. The 23-year-old had a great season with PSV Eindhoven in 2021–2022. But this season, he has stepped up his game and become one of the best players in Europe.
The Dutch attacker has done a great job, scoring 13 goals and setting up 11 others in 19 games. At the same time, he will be one of the first names on the 2022 FIFA World Cup team sheet for the Netherlands. Gakpo’s play has also caught the attention of Arsenal and Real Madrid, two of the best clubs in Europe.
Who will get him? Arsenal or Real Madrid?
Karim Benzema is getting older, which is likely why Real Madrid wants to sign him. Even though the French player has been amazing for the last four years, he is well into his thirties. Real Madrid will have to come up with a plan for what to do after the veteran striker, and they are keeping an eye on several attackers.
Real Madrid could also go after Gakpo. He is a Dutch international who can play different roles in the final third. The player is also a good choice because he is a good leader. But Arsenal will give Los Blancos a lot of trouble if they want to sign the star player from PSV Eindhoven.
Future of Cody Gakpo
Arsenal was interested in Gakpo before they signed Marquinhos and Gabriel Jesus in the summer transfer window. Even though the Gunners have had a great start to the season, it is not surprising that they are still interested in the Dutch attacker. That’s because Mikel Arteta’s team could still use another attacker, which makes Gakpo a choice to think about.
But it’s likely that PSV will fight tooth and nail to keep the player. To get rid of Gakpo, the Dutch giants will ask for about €50 million. And neither Arsenal nor Real Madrid should have a problem paying €50 million to sign him. In the coming months, it will be interesting to see if more clubs join the race to sign Gakpo.
