Youri Tielemans, a top player for Leicester City, has reportedly had yet another turn in his transfer story. Rumours claim that Barcelona is no longer in the running for his signing owing to an apparent “understanding” of his future club. Speculation about a transfer to Arsenal has been ongoing for almost a year.
Arsenal to win the race for Tielemans
“I would love him to sign another deal and continue his journey here at Leicester City. But we will see in the coming months,” the Leicester manager told reporters in early November.
The Gunners’ deadline-day purchase of Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa in the summer showed that they saw the need to fortify the midfield in case of an injury problem. As the Brazilian has re-signed with the Midlands club, the focus can now go back to Tielemans.
Spanish powerhouses Barcelona reportedly dropped out of the chase for his signing. However, it’s unclear whether this means they’re no longer the frontrunners. However, the story continues, the Blaugrana have withdrawn because they believe there is an “understanding” with another team. This may be good news for the Gunners.
That might be useful if the deal is with Arsenal. But until that is clarified, it could be viewed as a major blow to their hopes if they don’t make a move.
Youri Tielemans, a target of West Ham United’s recruitment activity, may have already agreed to join Arsenal from Leicester City.
An article in Marca (print edition December 5th, page 26) claims that the 25-year-old midfielder may join Arsenal for free at the conclusion of the season.
It seems like David Moyes and Mikel Arteta will have a very busy transfer window. But that Tielemans will be staying here until the summer.
So, where will Youri Tielemans land at?
However, the Scot has his job cut out for him in a major way given that the Leicester player’s transfer to the Gunners is said to be far advanced. Moyes must go back to the drawing board.
According to Marca (December 5th, page 26 of the print edition), the Belgian ace has already agreed to join the Gunners on a free transfer for the next season.
This news may be little wrong, however. Because he is still under contract with Leicester, the transfer could not have gone through. After the first of the year, he may enter into a pre-contract with any team outside of the United Kingdom.
On the other hand, nobody can say for sure. Perhaps there is a tacit understanding between the agents engaged in the transaction.
