Lionel Messi had a World Cup for the ages. The little magician has been herculean for the La Albiceleste, carrying the team on his shoulders with his virtuouso performances game in and game out. The hopes and dreams of an entire nation were laying on the shoulders of one man. And he delivered!!
A World Cup triumph after 36 years, was just what the fans needed. That too beating the reigning champions France. What a day and what a win!! What a tournament for Lionel Messi!!
With that being said, the Argentine earned potential immortality, as his team lifted the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. To add to that, he also won the Golden Ball last Sunday.
Dreams Do Come True; What A World Cup Win For Messi And Argentina!!
A few months earlier, Emi Martinez has said that such is the aura and the sway that Messi holds in Argentina, that even the President of the country holds his breath and listens to what Messi has to say in that moment. And now, as far as a former Argentine President is concerned, a World Cup win after 36 long years (which they did) would be enough to propel Messi to become the president of the country, such would be his social standing if he manages to win it all.
Former Argentina president Mauricio Macri has lavished praise on the Argentina side under the stewardship of Lionel Scaloni. The team overcame a nightmare start to the tournament, losing to Saudi Arabia. They then went on to win the next three games with Messi playing a starring role in all of them, before getting the better of the Dutch in the quarterfinals on penalties after a bad-blooded and very ill-tempered 120 minutes, which saw a record 17 yellow cards brandished to both sides for their transgressions.
The Comments Made By Mauricio Macri About The Argentine Skipper Prior To The World Cup Final!!
Speaking to Marca on the subject of Messi being president if they win it, Macri opined, “Yes we would appoint him as President. The most important thing is that they enjoy themselves”.
He also went on to clarify that Argentina were among the 5-6 teams that entered the tournament as favorites to win it all, but while the likes of France and Brazil have been lucky in some games to eke out a result, Argentina have been fortunate not to be reliant on luck so much this tournament, thanks to the sheer brilliance and artistry of Messi.
Macri also claims that with 80% of the host nation wanting Messi to be the champion this time, he also holds a massive fan following no matter the place.
Are we very soon going to be using “Presidente Messi” in the near future? Depends whether or not he wants to join the BIG BOYS and be part of the political setup of his country. Who knows what might happen in the years that go by. Let’s wait and watch!! For now, Messi will want to end his footballing career well and focus on winning more for sure.
