In the January transfer window, Arsenal and other interested parties believe that £5 million is a fair loan price to pay for Joao Felix. The Gunners have been mentioned as a possible suitor for the free agent 23-year-old before the month ends.
However, even if Atletico Madrid has reduced their asking price from a hefty permanent fee to a possible loan, the math still does not work in their favour for Arsenal.
Arsenal is prepared to pay Felix’s $5 million loan fee
The demands are shaping out to be more like a £12 million loan charge. Then Felix’s pay on top, which is an expensive combination.
It also seems very unlikely that a permanent option price would be agreed upon after any loan transfer to the Premier League.
However, if Arsenal decides to replace Gabriel Jesus with a loan signing and Atletico continue to lower their expectations, the most attractive and practical short-term striking alternative seems to be Felix.
“Joao is very special,” England international Kieran Trippier told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He is a very special player. To be fair, he is quite good in the air. When I played with him, the way he attacks the ball. Many people won’t see that in his game, but he is very good in the air. Joao has got all the ability in the world to be a world-class player,” he added.

Manchester United also wants Joao Felix
It has been reported that Atletico Madrid has informed Manchester United that it will cost them over £18 million to loan out star player Joao Felix for only six months.
The Athletic reports that United, Arsenal, and Chelsea have all inquired about a potential trade involving the Portuguese forward. A loan fee of €15m (£13.2m) and Felix’s gross salary of €6m (£5.3m) would bring the entire financial package for the Spanish club to allow him to depart on loan to €21m (£18.6m).
His relationship with manager Diego Simeone has reportedly deteriorated. So, it is believed that Atletico is willing to let the 23-year-old depart the club. Since joining the La Liga giants from Benfica in 2019, he has only scored 34 goals. He has also added 18 assists in 130 games.
With Cristiano Ronaldo having left in November, Erik ten Hag is eager to acquire a new striker. But it seems doubtful that the Reds would spend that much to sign Felix for the rest of the season.
Moreover, Fichajes claims that United are considering a January transfer for Roma attacker Tammy Abraham. The team reportedly sees him as a viable possibility.
