Emile Smith Rowe recently made it to the first team after spending the majority of the campaign out through a groin injury. Needless to say, Arsenal apparently turned down the offer. The fans were taken aback after Emile Smith Rowe was substituted in the second half. Mikel Arteta brought in the youngster as a first-half substitute. However, the young playmaker made his presence count on the field for less than 50 minutes before he was taken off.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta explained the reason why Smith Rowe was substituted in the second half. “We didn’t plan to throw him in so early in the game. We knew it would be difficult for him to last for 70 minutes after he’d had five months out. But I think he had a good impact. In the end, I felt that we needed something else, especially on the left, as we were attracting more players onto that side so we made the decision to change.”
