The fans wanted Steve Smith to play in the IPL 2023 tournament. When Kane Williamson got injured on the opening day of the tournament, the Aussie was trending all over Social Media as a potential name to replace him. However, one thing the fans did not account for are the rules. And this is what could hurt his chances of taking part now.
A lot of cricket and IPL fans wanted to see Steve Smith play the IPL this year. This was due to his recent form in the BBL and as an international player. He had done fairly well for himself recently. And the form could have been carried forward into the IPL 2023 tournament.
However, he wasn’t part of any franchise and eventually joined the commentary team. This was also something that the fans took well in their stride. At least, he was still associated with the tournament in some way. That is, after playing for the Delhi Capitals last in the 2021 edition.
Steve Smith Is Back In IPL 2023 As A Commentator But The Fans Want More!!
The endless love of cricket fans never seizes to end. Once the fans love a cricketer, they always want more and more from him. Similar is the case with Steve Smith and his set of fans. They want him to play this year and make an impact. It’s just pure emotion and support for a top player, who can deliver in any format.
However, though the fans want this, there are always rules. And one such rule will prevent this wild-dream from coming true now. Unfortunate, but that is what is the fact. And rules are rules!! For everyone!!
And so, it is best for the fans to accept that Steve Smith will not be playing IPL 2023. No matter what happens, the Australian vice-captain will not be part of the tournament. It is just how things are and nothing can be done about it.
The Real Reason Why Steve Smith Can’t Play The Current Edition Of The IPL!?
There won’t be too many fans around the globe that wouldn’t want Steve Smith to play IPL 2023. Despite the fact that he isn’t really a T20-type-of-player, the fans love him. He is a great cricketer and is fun to watch on the pitch. His batting and on-the-pitch antics are just great and it keeps the fans involved.
However, one thing is for certain. The leg-spinner turned top-batsman will not be playing in the IPL 2023 tournament. The reason is simple. He did not register himself for the auction. And with Kane Williamson now injured, the Gujarat Titans could only pick a player that was part of the 2023 IPL auction.
And so they decided to go with Sri Lankan skipper, Dasun Shanaka (as per claims). Well, it would surely be a great pick for any team to have. He has the experience and the skill and can be not just a handy bastman, but an all-rounder if the team does really need him in either department. Let’s wait and watch whether the Gujarat Titans actually need him in IPL 2023, with Matthew Wade also sitting on the sidelines.
