Arsenal Transfer News: Arsenal, who are currently leading the Premier League, are reportedly prepared to rush in during the January transfer window and capture Cody Gakpo from Manchester United. After his impressive performance at the Qatar World Cup, PSV is anticipated to seek a record sum in the region of €60 million to authorize a winter transfer of their greatest asset.
Both Leeds United and Southampton were interested in signing him this summer. The former almost finished the deal to bring him to Elland Road when the 23-year-old’s team abruptly changed its mind. The Dutchman seems to have outgrown both teams. Relegation battles loom over both of them for most of the next season.
Will Arsenal get Gakpo?
Gakpo contributed heavily to PSV’s success with 21 goals and 15 assists in 47 games last year. He has picked it up this year. He has been sensational for PSV this season/ He has contributed to 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 games. In fact, he is presently ranked first in the Dutch Eredivise.
Since scoring three goals in five games for Oranje at the 2022 World Cup, the forward’s stock has only gone increased. Gakpo has apparently drawn attention from Arsenal and United. But PSV has placed a hefty €60 million price tag on his head. The Dutch giants, though, seem to have put their trust in their belief system. They are determined to protect their talisman.
The 23-year-old attacker is expected to depart PSV next month, as confirmed by the team’s head coach, Ruud Van Nistelrooy. In an interview with Voetbal International, he remarked, “If I had the option, I want [Gakpo to go in] the summer, but it may also be now. You know there will be a day when you can’t say “no.”
He’s been linked to Manchester United for a while. But his goal-scoring this season seems to have piqued the interest of Arsenal.
Manchester United is also showing interest
After striker Gabriel Jesus suffered a knee injury, Arsenal is likely to make a strong move in the transfer market next month to bring in a short-term replacement. Despite his importance in making Mikel Arteta’s team an unexpected championship challenger, the Brazilian is anticipated to miss many months of action.
Gakpo’s flexibility means he could fill several different places in Arteta’s starting eleven. Manchester United, who just tore up the remaining six months of Cristiano Ronaldo’s expensive deal, is also looking to add a striker to their roster. United manager Erik ten Hag is a great supporter of Gakpo. The player and coach he met while heading the PSV academy.
Gakpo was a player the Red Devils were interested in signing from PSV during the previous transfer window. But they spent all of their money on Antony instead. The Manchester club’s interest in the striker is expected to resurface in the next month.
