IPL 2023: After hitting Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Jason Holder for three consecutive sixes on Sunday, April 30, Tim David of the Mumbai Indians (MI) expressed sympathy for Holder.
The heavy hitter conceded that the damp ball made things extremely tough for Rajasthan’s bowlers at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai during the IPL 2023 encounter.
In the historic 1000th match of the IPL, MI defeated RR by a score of 6 wickets. To win, the home side needed to score 17 runs in the last over while chasing 213. David (45* off 14) pounded all three of Holder’s full tosses for sixes to help Mumbai to a historic victory.
IPL 2023: Tim David expresses sympathy for Jason Holder
At the postgame press conference, David expressed sympathy for the RR bowlers. He said: “It was tough bowling. It was very sweaty to grip the ball. As a batter, you have a feeling when you get the momentum. It was very important that the first ball went for six. It’s a tough role for him [Holder]. I feel for him because it was tough for everyone bowling at all stages.”
Holder’s Day was unremarkable. In 3.3 overs, he gave up 55 runs without picking up a single wicket.
When asked where he batted, David said that he could fill in anywhere the team needed him. He remarked on the solid top and middle of the lineup, saying: “I have happy doing whatever the team needs. I don’t know where I would move up the order. We’ve got Ishan [Kishan], Rohit [Sharma], [Cameron] Green coming out and smacking it. Surya [Suryakumar Yadav], Tilak [Varma]… I am not moving any of those guys out of those batting positions.”
He added: “I am happy doing my job. I am trying to become versatile and finding the best option.”

Green (44 runs off 26 balls) and Suryakumar (55 runs off 29 balls) produced brilliant innings to put Mumbai in the hunt while chasing 213, but David ultimately sealed the deal.
Because of David’s six-hitting antics, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s first IPL century was for nothing. With 16 fours and eight sixes, the youthful RR opener blasted 124 runs in only 62 balls. Despite the Rajasthan Royals’ loss, Jaiswal was honoured as the match’s Player of the Match for his impressive batting performance.
Praising Jaiswal, David said: “He played an amazing innings. Congratulations to him. It was very good to watch. He’s a Mumbai boy, so on his home turf, that must be special for him. I don’t know if it is his first hundred in the IPL, but it is an amazing knock, so well done to him.”
