There have been rumours that Lionel Messi, two years after leaving Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain, has returned to the Catalan capital, Barcelona. Messi, 35 years old, has spent the last two seasons playing for Paris Saint-Germain after being forced to leave the Catalan giants when they were unable to renew his contract due to financial difficulties. Despite continuing his world-beating form, the South American has always seemed destined to return to the club he spent 21 years with, before retiring.
Though it will be difficult to re-sign the 35-year-old seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, Barcelona is interested in bringing back their greatest player. Speculation has been ramped up that Messi will once again play in the renowned red and blue of Barcelona next season after he was observed arriving at the club on Monday, probably for negotiations of a prospective summer move.

Sergio Busquets has been given an offer to re-sign for quite some time but has failed to respond. The midfielder’s contract with the club will expire at the conclusion of the season. But the coaching staff is still interested in retaining him.
Busquets has been extended a proposal, but it comes with a significant pay decrease. Despite Inter Miami’s interest and previous negotiations with Xavi Hernandez, nothing has been decided.
Gerard Romero, however, has provided an update on Busquets’ future. He stated that the midfielder may be interested in staying at Camp Nou if Barcelona is able to re-sign Lionel Messi this summer.

Messi’s close friendship with Busquets and the other of Barcelona’s veteran players explains much of this. It’s possible that after working together for so long, they’ll both be sad to see each other go.
Barcelona has publicly stated its wish to reunite with its errant son at Camp Nou. However, until they get feedback from the authorities on their financial viability plan, they are limited in what they can do amidst conflicts with Financial Fair Play requirements in La Liga.
Barcelona presented La Liga with a plan earlier this week outlining how the club intends to grow income while decreasing wage costs. But the team won’t hear back until May at the earliest. The Catalans could be stuck in a holding pattern until then.
Given the pressure Messi is under to re-sign with PSG, it may be in everyone’s best interest for him to return to Barcelona as soon as possible.
