IPL 2023: The performance of Rajasthan Royals‘ opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has pleased Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma considerably in the current 16th season of the Indian Premier League. Jaiswal enters his fourth season in the IPL. It is reasonable to say that he has already made his mark.
He scored 428 runs at an average of 47.56 and a strike rate of 159.70. He has a century and three half-centuries. The left-handed batter might be expected to wear the Indian shirt in the coming months. Jaiswal has a chance to set a record for the most runs scored by an uncapped batter if at least five more matches are played.
IPL 2023: Rohit Sharma asks Yashasvi Jaiswal the secret of his power
Sharma’s evaluation of Jaiswal’s six-hitting abilities as compared to the previous year was spot-on during the post-match presentation with host broadcaster Star Sports Network.
“I watched him last year as well. He’s taken his game to another level this year. I was just asking him about ‘Where is that power coming from’? Because I didn’t see so many sixes [from him] last year. He was timing [them] so nicely. He said, ‘I have been spending a lot of time in the gym’,” Sharma told Star Sports in Mumbai.
What did Jaiswal say?
Jaiswal also talked about the reason behind his power in the post-match presentation of the game with Harsha Bhogle.
“I think I keep myself mentally very strong. Secondly, I am working a lot on my fitness, dietary intake and discipline. My world outside of cricket is well-organized,” Jaiswal said after winning his third Player of the Match award this season.
With 18 sixes this season, Jaiswal is sixth on the list of players with the most sixes in IPL 2023. However, he leads the league with 56 fours. During the 2022 and 2021 seasons of the Indian Premier League, Jaiswal struck ten sixes in as many games. His improvement in this format is shown by the fact that his average number of sixes per match has doubled from the previous two seasons.
IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians defeat Rajasthan Royals
The Mumbai Indians defeated the Rajasthan Royals by six wickets in a high-scoring thriller in which David hit Jason Holder for three consecutive sixes. David completed the massive 213-run chase with three balls to spare, needing 17 runs in the last over. David came back undefeated on 45 off 14 deliveries. He and Tilak Varma (29* off 21) put up an important 62-run stand that helped Mumbai win.
Suryakumar Yadav had previously scored 55(29), which provided a solid foundation for later heroics by David and Varma. After losing their captain to a lowly 3(5), Mumbai fought back thanks to the efforts of Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green. After Green and wicketkeeper, Ishan put on 62 runs for the second wicket, wicketkeeper Kishan was removed by Ashwin for 28(23).
In the following over, the carrom ball expert dismissed Green (44 off 26). After deciding to bat, Rajasthan scored 212/7 in 20 overs thanks in large part to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s century. After scoring 124 (62), he was out on the last over of the inning. Jaiswal’s aggressive opening stance gave way to Jos Buttler’s supporting role. After putting up 72 runs for the first wicket, Buttler was dismissed for 18 (19) by Piyush Chawla in the eighth over. Jaiswal kept up his destruction and hit 100 off of only 53 balls. He scored with a strike rate of 200, with 16 fours and eight sixes.
