Arsenal Newsnow: After failing to acquire Mykhailo Mudryk, Arsenal has begun negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for French winger Moussa Diaby. After quoting €100m (£88.5m) to interested teams in the summer, Leverkusen has no intention of selling the 23-year-old midway through the current season.
Until the summer of 2025, Diaby is under contract with the German club. He joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2019 after previously playing for Paris Saint-Germain, his hometown team. The winger was left off of France’s World Cup roster after earning eight caps for his country.
After losing out on Mudryk to Chelsea, Arsenal is said to be monitoring Raphinha’s position at Barcelona
Arsenal has been interested in a number of forward players this window, not only Mudryk, so they are ready to act on any possibility that may come their way. Arsenal has been keeping tabs on Raphinha since last season.
When Brazilian international winger Raphinha was playing for Leeds last summer, the Gunners tried to get him before he completed a £55 million transfer to Barcelona. Arsenal’s starting wingers, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are Premier League all-stars in their own right. The two players have been outstanding all year long. They are a major factor in the Gunners’ success this season in the Premier League.
If either Martinelli or Saka suffers injury, Arsenal will face heavy danger. Mikel Arteta does not have a high-calibre replacement for either player on the wings. Because of what transpired with Mudryk, Arsenal has made acquiring a replacement winger a high priority and will likely move fast to do so.

What’s next?
Diaby, a winger for Leverkusen and one of the greatest in the Bundesliga, would be an incredible addition. Edu has reportedly already begun negotiations with the German club. All month long, Arsenal has maintained their stance that they would not spend £88.5 million for Mudryk, who has very little experience at the highest level.
As a result of this transfer fee, many fans of rival team Arsenal think Chelsea has gone over the top in an attempt to displace them. Diaby would be a lot better investment than spending £88.5m on a new wide man for the Gunners. These previous few seasons, the Frenchman has been outstanding. He has contributed to a total of 43 goals and 41 assists for the team in all competitions. Diaby is “lightning” fast and a scary opponent for defenders. He would be a great addition to Arsenal to help them forget about Mudryk.
That’s according to Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports, who tweeted a few minutes ago: “Arsenal have made initial contact with Bayer Leverkusen over Moussa Diaby. Leverkusen do not want to sell mid-season. Leverkusen were quoting €100 million (£88.5m) to interested clubs in the summer.”
