Arsenal Transfer News: The £12 million transfer fee for Italian international Jorginho has been agreed upon between Arsenal and Chelsea
Arsenal Transfer News: The transfer of Jorginho to Arsenal has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. The Gunners agreed to a £12 million agreement with Chelsea. Before today’s transfer deadline, the Italian international will go to north London for medicals and finalize the transfer. Just before the transfer deadline, Arsenal signed midfielder Jorginho. Mikel Arteta, who reportedly intended to sign a midfielder this window, was able to sign the Italian international.
In light of Arsenal’s failure to reach an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo, the club’s interest in Jorginho only surfaced late on Monday. The Seagulls have maintained their stance that they would retain the Ecuadorian international for the rest of the season.
Arsenal Transfer News: What’s the matter?
After having two bids rejected by Brighton, Arsenal was anticipated to submit a third proposal. The Gunners have swooped in for Jorginho from Chelsea. He has just six months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, in the waning hours of the current transfer window.
His long-term viability at Stamford Bridge was questioned. Talks between Chelsea and Benfica about the transfer of Enzo Fernandez have progressed over the last two days. The Blues now seem to be in a strong position to complete the deal. So they were willing to transfer Jorginho to Arsenal despite the fact that he may aid the Gunners’ championship bid.
The transfer price between Arsenal and Chelsea was settled at £12 million. Jorginho’s contract will be for 18 months with a possible 19th. The board was apparently persuaded by Arteta that the Italian was a good investment. The Gunners have long wished for a centre midfielder who could either replace Thomas Partey or provide competition for him. Due to an injury, they have already lost Mohamed Elneney. And Arteta has no faith that Albert Sambi Lokonga can adequately fill in for the job. In the context of Arsenal’s Premier League chase, the addition of a player with Jorginho’s savviness is important.

Will Jorginho help the Gunners?
Jorginho will go to north London today to have his physical and officially join Arsenal before the transfer deadline. Whether or if the Italian international is the perfect midfielder to aid the Gunners in their Premier League pursuit is still up in the air. His knowledge is invaluable, though. If Chelsea does not secure a permanent deal for Jorginho before the end of the current transfer window, they risk losing the 31-year-old for free in the summer when his contract at Stamford Bridge ends.

If Chelsea is successful in their pursuit of Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, Jorginho’s status in the club’s pecking order would inevitably decline. If Chelsea is successful in their pursuit of Fernandez, then Arsenal may consider making a bid for Jorginho.
When trying to win the English Premier League this season, Arsenal would benefit greatly from Jorginho’s expertise. He won the European Cup with Italy in 2020 and the European Cup and the Europa League with Chelsea.
