Arsenal Transfer News: Mikel Arteta reportedly wants Arsenal to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer. The 24-year-old has been reliable over the last several years for Real Sociedad. His impressive play has caught the attention of several teams.

Real Sociedad has been a part of Zubimendi’s life ever since he was a kid. The 24-year-old has quickly risen through the ranks at the club and is now one of their most valuable players.

In the summer of 2020, he was promoted to the major league squad. Since then, the Spanish international has played 132 times for Imanol Alguacil’s squad, contributing 9 goals in the process. This season, the 24-year-old defensive midfielder has appeared in 33 games and has been involved in four goals.

His contract with the team extends until the summer of 2027. He has been one of their most reliable players over the years. His contract with Real Sociedad includes a €60 million buyout that might allow him to depart the club this summer.

The Catalan club Barcelona has been keeping tabs on the Spanish international for some time. He is seen as a long-term successor for the ageing Sergio Busquets by the Catalan giants.

Xavi wants Zubimendi to join his team. Given their current financial circumstances, however, it won’t be simple. The team is in no position to exercise his release clause at the moment. And that might be good news for Arsenal, who are keen to add the 24-year-old to their roster.

What’s next?

Arteta has been excellent this season for the Gunners. They are now in first place in the Premier League and will almost certainly qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

The Spanish coach, on the other hand, is eager to add Zubimendi to his roster in order to boost the team’s overall calibre. He’s trying to get him ready for the next season. The Gunners’ manager is on the hunt for a new defensive midfielder. With the addition of the 24-year-old, Arteta knows his team has a better shot of winning the UCL next season.

His addition will provide them more options in the middle of the field and give Arteta more freedom to sub in and out of players. The club is prepared to spend €60 million to get the Spanish international to the Emirates Stadium because of their upcoming return to the UCL.
