The Whole Incident Involving Ex-Chelsea And Manchester United Boss Jose Mourinho, AS Roma Fans And Anthony Taylor; Charged By UEFA

Tottenham

There is no doubt that Jose Mourinho has always been a sore loser. The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss always creates some controversy when his team does not get the desired result. And this has been the case since the start for him. He does not keep his emotions in check at that point and lashes out at people and things.

This was once again the case on the night of the Europa League final. The Portuguese manager’s side, AS Roma was playing Sevilla at the Puskas Arena Park in Budapest, Hungary. And they ended up losing the game on penalties, after a full-time and extra-time score of 1-1.

The Italian side took the lead first from a Paulo Dybala first-half goal. It came in the 35th minute of the game, as the deadlock was broken. However, the Spanish outfit, that had never lost a final in this competition, equalized in the second half. It was an own goal by Mancini in the 55th minute.

And the game went to penalty kicks, where Sevilla won 4-1. However, there was some controversy surrounding the shootout. And this did not please the Italian team’s fans and manager Jose Mourinho.

Why Were The Fans And The Management Of The Italian Side Really Unhappy With Referee Anthony Taylor!?

During the shootout, when the score was 3-1 in favour of Sevilla, Gonzalo Montiel missed his penalty. Everyone thought that the Romans still had a chance to win the game. Had that penalty been scored, it would have been curtains for Jose Mourinho and his men. Despite that, the joy was really short-lived.
Rui Patrício was adjudged to have moved off his line before the kick was taken. And this forced referee Anthony Taylor to ask the player to retake his kick. A kick that had been saved and was a huge miss for Sevilla. And had kept Roma in the game.
And this is what made everyone angry, as when it was retaken, Montiel scored. This ended the game and Sevilla had won their 7th Europa League title. It did not go down well, with the fans of the Italian side. They really needed a scapegoat and Jose Mourinho escalated the whole situation.

What Did Roma Boss Jose Mourinho Do That Set The Tone For An All-Out Attack On Anthony Taylor!?

The Portuguese manager was frustrated with the end result. And he scapegoated Anthony Taylor for the loss. That is, despite his team getting a lot of chances to score. But they failed to convert them and this frustrated everybody. At the end of it all, they came out on the wrong side of things.
Below is the video of the reaction of Jose Mourinho after the loss that went viral!!

And here is what happened when the ROMA fans came face-to-face with the English referee!!

Jose Mourinho will get at least a touchline ban for a couple of games. This was after being charged by UEFA over his behaviour towards Anthony Taylor. He was filmed haranguing Taylor at a stretch in the VIP car park area. This video above went viral and things quickly escalated and got out of hand. This did Mourinho no favours at all, for sure!!

And at the end of it all, Seville took away all the positives. And Jose Mourinho and co. took back the painful memories. That too, after leading in the game, for quite some time. That’s how cruel football can be at times!!
