Latest Liverpool News: Reds Keen To Add Chelsea Star To Their Ranks; Will This Deal Go Through!?

Chelsea And Liverpool Are Fighting Tooth And Nail To Secure This €40m Signing

Latest Liverpool News: The Reds and their Premier League rivals, Chelsea are in talks with regards to quite a few deals in the current transfer window. A lot of players have been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. Some of them have already left the Londoners. Others are still planning on doing so and are talking to various clubs.

It was widely anticipated that Liverpool would have engaged in transfer business with Chelsea by now. This is, given the circumstances surrounding Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules and Chelsea’s need to offload players by June 30. Several intriguing options were considered, with Mason Mount being a chief candidate. However, Mount signed for Manchester United for £60m, which was too costly for Liverpool. Other players like Conor Gallagher and Levi Colwill were also mentioned as potential targets.

Although the June 30 deadline has passed, the possibility of Liverpool acquiring Colwill remains alive. Chelsea has offloaded players like Mount, Kalidou Koulibaly, Kai Havertz, and Mateo Kovacic. However, Pochettino, the Chelsea manager, still faces the challenge of managing a bloated squad. In a recent statement, Pochettino hinted at the need to understand Colwill’s expectations and whether he demands immediate game time. If Colwill feels that his pathway at Chelsea is blocked, a transfer could be sanctioned, especially considering his contract expires in 2025.

The reluctance to play Colwill at Chelsea stems from the presence of numerous established defenders ahead of him. The club has invested substantial amounts in players like Wesley Fofana and Benoît Badiashile, both contracted until 2029 and 2030, respectively. Marc Cucurella is another significant signing who needs to find his place in the squad. Considering these factors, it’s challenging for Colwill to displace such highly valued players, amounting to a combined cost of £220 million.

While Liverpool also has a formidable defensive lineup with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté as the established first-choice pairing, there is a sense that Jurgen Klopp can offer Colwill a genuine pathway. With Van Dijk and Joel Matip aging, Liverpool seems to be building a succession plan. This, potentially opening up opportunities for Colwill to compete with Joe Gomez and partner with Konaté in the future.

Reportedly, Liverpool feels confident in their ability to lure Colwill away from Chelsea, as per 90MIN. However, convincing the west-London outfit to sell may prove challenging. Navigating this delicate situation will be Pochettino’s first major test. Although it’s too early for Liverpool to be overly optimistic, it will undoubtedly be fascinating to see how events unfold.

There are a lot of young players out there being monitored at present. Many from the recently concluded U-21 Euros are being scouted, by a lot of top clubs across the European continent, with the hopes of signing them. It will be interesting to see who ends up where. The transfer window still has a long way to go. And we will keep you updated with the latest Liverpool news and whatever happens at the Bridge!!
