Chelsea is apparently interested in 25-year-old Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who is now at Serie A team Napoli. TEAMtalk claims Osimhen is waiting for Chelsea to make a bid to Napoli before deciding whether to go to Stamford Bridge during the next summer transfer window.
Being one of the best attackers in the world, Osimhen has a great reputation, which makes Chelsea want to sign him. His possible signing, with 17 goals in different competitions, could greatly improve Chelsea’s goal-scoring potential. He can eclipse the disappointing performance of Nicolas Jackson, who was brought in last summer to deal with comparable problems but has not been able to deliver consistently.
Osimhen has drawn attention from other teams like Paris Saint-Germain after helping Napoli win the Serie A championship the previous season. He clearly wants to transfer, however, as shown by his liking for the Premier League and Chelsea in particular. Osimhen is very talented, but getting him won’t be cheap. His £113 million release clause in his contract with Napoli implies Chelsea will have to spend a lot of money to get him. Napoli is unwilling to leave with its valuable asset for anything less than a large sum, so negotiating with them won’t be easy either.
25-year-old Striker With 17 Goals Is Waiting For An Offer From Chelsea
One further level of complication to Chelsea’s quest is financial limitations. Their inability to qualify for the UEFA Champions League will affect their income sources and maybe restrict their capacity to spend lavishly on expensive acquisitions. Chelsea hasn’t played as well as they should have, given their level of talent. It will need excellent reinforcements to go back to the top of English and European football. The addition of Osimhen might provide Chelsea’s offensive squad much-needed firepower and perhaps revive their pursuit of a championship.
Chelsea is proactively addressing its goal-scoring problems as shown by their alleged interest in Victor Osimhen. The Blues might benefit greatly on the field even if there may be financial and negotiating obstacles in the way of getting his signing.
It seems like a wise move for Chelsea to be pursuing Victor Osimhen from Napoli. Osimhen has shown himself to be a very good striker, and Chelsea needs some strength up front. Should they be able to capture him, their assault could gain much-needed impetus. Not that it will be inexpensive, however. Talks might get difficult with such large release clause. Chelsea doesn’t exactly have it easy financially either. Still, if they manage it, Osimhen may be the catalyst they need to go back up the English and European football ladders.
