There is no chance Aaron Ramsdale will be joining Newcastle United this summer. Goalie for Arsenal is looking for a team where he can start every game. According to Football Insider, Ramsdale is still indifferent even though Newcastle is showing interest. Ramsdale wants to be the primary man in between the posts, but Newcastle boss Eddie Howe intends to maintain Nick Pope as his top goalie for the next season.
For a few months, Newcastle United has showed interest in Ramsdale. They even gave moving him some thought back in January. Following the loan signing of David Raya by Mikel Arteta, who made Raya the first-choice keeper right away, Ramsdale lost his starting job. Ramsdale began to seek for a new team to rekindle his career after realizing his future at Arsenal was gloomy. According to rumors, Newcastle was prepared to bid £15 million for Ramsdale—half of what Arsenal spent for him in 2021.
Big Change Of Events In Aaron Ramsdale To Newcastle United
The reports were unfounded, however, as Ramsdale clarified in a post on X, “News to me.” Ramsdale is obviously not interested in joining Newcastle since he wants to be the first choice keeper and Howe’s intentions with Nick Pope would not allow that. Arsenal is also seeking a premium for Ramsdale, and Newcastle may not want to shell out a lot of money for a backup keeper.
Eddie Howe could be more inclined to challenge Pope with a more affordable or willing player, in which case Ramsdale would be unfeasible. Newcastle has indicated they are considering alternative possibilities by expressing interest in Giorgi Mamardashvili. If Howe was thinking forward to a time after Pope, signing Ramsdale might make sense, but that’s not the case right now.
He still has choices, however. Chelsea has shown curiosity in the England international. Ramsdale stands for one of the finest English keepers on the market, and the Blues want to remain competitive. Should Chelsea opt to go, it will be intriguing to see whether Arsenal is prepared to sell to a direct competitor. Ramsdale isn’t going to Newcastle this summer, that much is certain.
