Liverpool is seeking over £20 million this summer for 22-year-old Sepp van den Berg. According to The Athletic, the Dutch defender could not be at Liverpool FC once the next transfer market closes. Signing him would be interesting to Southampton and Brentford.
Ever since joining Liverpool’s first squad in July 2019, Sepp van den Berg has found it difficult to hold onto a regular place. He joined Liverpool when he was seventeen years old and has spent the bulk of his career on loan. He has had three loan stints in the last five years, the most recent one with FSV Mainz 05, where he scored three goals and played around 3,000 minutes in 36 games.
As the summer transfer window draws near, van den Berg’s future at Liverpool is still unknown. Since Liverpool is looking for a new center-back and has shown interest in Antonio Silva, van den Berg is unlikely to start. Interest in van den Berg is not, however, in short supply. The teenage defender is seen as having promise by Southampton and Brentford.
Liverpool Will Sell Their Player For £20m
Brentford needs new defensive players because of its injury-ridden season. They are looking for a youthful center-back as Ben Mee and Zanka are becoming older. Southampton, meanwhile, wants to bolster their team after their victory against Leeds United in the EFL Championship playoff final to gain promotion to the Premier League. Van den Berg seems to them like a good choice, but Liverpool’s £20 million price tag is a big barrier.
Maybe Southampton and Brentford could pay Liverpool’s £20 million asking price. They are not, however, the only teams vying for Van den Berg. He is also being watched by Ajax and VfL Wolfsburg, who guarantee a fierce competition for his signing. As these teams fight for the Dutch defender, there should be more action and talks in the next weeks.
Sepp van den Berg at Liverpool has an unclear future, to sum up. The Reds seem prepared to cash in on him despite his talent and experience on loan. Needing defensive reinforcements, Brentford and Southampton are very interested. It may become more complicated, however, with Ajax and VfL Wolfsburg in the mix. Clubs will fight hard to get the youthful talent after Liverpool’s £20 million appraisal.
More news:
Both Liverpool and Newcastle United are interested in 19-year-old Serie A centre-back Dean Huijsen, a bright young prospect. Huijsen, who was reared in Spain but born in Amsterdam, developed his talents in the Juventus junior ranks. He hasn’t yet been able to hold down a regular place in Juventus’ first squad despite his promise.
Huijsen is a loan player with AS Roma this season. He has played in 14 games throughout his tenure, scoring two goals and dishing out one assist. Not surprisingly, his performances have drawn attention, and he will return to Juventus this summer—though he may not remain there for very long. He is much wanted to join the Premier League by Newcastle United and Liverpool.
