Arsenal Player Wants To Leave The Club; Club Wants £20m

Arsenal News: One of Arsenal’s home-grown players, Reiss Nelson, has apparently indicated that he wants to look into transfer possibilities this summer. Nelson played in few games in 2022–2023 but had a big effect coming off the bench, particularly against Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest, when he scored a thrilling goal in the 97th minute.

Nelson’s performances as a backup for Bukayo Saka over the most of that season won him a new long-term deal. This deal has a 12-month extension option and runs until the conclusion of the 2026–27 season. Nelson was supposedly assured a bigger part in the 2023–24 season by Mikel Arteta. But in all, the former England youth international started only five games, one in the Champions League and one in the Premier League.

Nelson ended the season on the sidelines after missing seven of Arsenal’s last eight Premier League matchday lineups. Nelson was shut out along with Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares when Arteta had most of his players healthy and available. Since Elneny and Soares left on free transfers, Nelson seems to be going to follow suit, not getting the minutes he was promised.

According to The Athletic, Nelson has let Arsenal know he plans to look into transfer possibilities throughout the next several weeks. While Arsenal was vying for Premier League and Champions League glory in January, it is said that they rejected down offers for Nelson. Apparently, they are looking for bids of around £20 million for their academy graduate, so they could be more willing to take offers now. Admirers of Nelson include Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, and West Ham United.

A four-way battle for Nelson’s signing has broken out as Brighton & Hove Albion, who were formerly in the race, seem to have lost interest. With his eventual departure, Nelson’s 17-year relationship with Arsenal would come to an end. Since joining the youth system, he has scored eight goals and provided nine assists in 89 games.

As Arteta tries to simplify his team, Nelson may spearhead a homegrown departure from Arsenal this summer. Also graduates of the Hale End academy, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe had trouble getting into games in 2023–24 and may be moved on if the right offers come in. Additionally, having played second fiddle to David Raya for the duration of the season, England international goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has made hints about looking for a new team. Ramsdale said recently that he never wants to go through a season like 2023–24 again, as Arsenal gets ready to convert Raya’s Brentford loan into a permanent agreement.

Nelson’s leaving would be a big deal for the team as well as for him. It emphasizes how fiercely competitive elite football is and how rosters are always changing. Nelson may get the consistent playing time he wants and a new opportunity to show off his skills with a transfer. For Arsenal, it is a step toward Arteta’s goal of concentrating on players who complement his tactical schemes and make regular contributions. As Nelson and Arsenal negotiate these changes, the summer transfer market looks to be an intriguing time.
