With an eye toward purchasing for £5.9 million, Serie A team Lazio has agreed to loan Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares. Deal reported by Italian writer Alfredo Pedulla Arsenal had demanded £8.45 million as the purchase clause, but Lazio argued for a less price. Tavares’s contract continues until 2025, hence both teams worked and agreed on the £5.9 million sum. Lazio still has to complete negotiations with Tavares’s agency even with the development of the transaction. It is hoped that this will be fixed today. Twenty-four year old Tavares does not fit Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s plans. Having spent the last two seasons on loan, he is finally returning to Lazio.
Arsenal Player To Leave On Loan This Summer
Tavares spent last season at Nottingham Forest but came back to be ready for the next one. He won’t be back for Arsenal, however, clearly. Rather, he will go with Lazio and get back in touch with his old friend Matteo Guendouzi. Having developed a close relationship with Tavares throughout their time together at Arsenal and Marseille in the 2022–23 season, Guendouzi was instrumental in deciding where Tavares should go.
Originally from Benfica, Tavares originally joined Arsenal in July 2021. During his first run, he appeared 28 times total across all divisions. But he lost favour with Arteta after a noteworthy episode. He reacted violently when replaced in January 2022 after only 34 minutes in an FA Cup game against Nottingham Forest. Arteta clearly had no intention of integrating him in future plans, even if he participated in pre-season games going into the 2022–23 season and played twenty more games.
Tavares also had turbulent time in Marseille. He parted out with manager Igor Tudor, which threw off a possible permanent transfer even with his six goals in 39 games. Tavares’s transfer was brought up by Tudor’s leaving Marseilles and then moving to Lazio in March 2024. Marco Baroni replaced Tudor at the conclusion of the season, opening the way for Tavares’s next action.

Left-back Nuno Tavares has been agreed upon for a loan-to- purchase deal between Arsenal and Lazio. On loan, Tavares will go to Lazio under contract wherein the Serie A team must buy him for between £6 million and £7 million. Additionally included in this agreement is a sell-on provision. Tavares now has license to discuss personal terms with Lazio. Originally in favor with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, Tavares had intended to remain with the Gunners through pre-season before making his decision on his future. But Arsenal has indicated Tavares may depart after a disastrous loan spell at Nottingham Forest. For Lazio, the loan offer—with a future purchase obligation—represents a new chance.
Apart from Tavares’ action, Arsenal is also trying to push away other peripheral players. Eddie Nketiah, a striker, has piques of interest for Marseille. Though they already have a contract with Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood, the French team is still working on personal matters. After giving Nketiah some thought last summer, Pablo Longoria, the president of Marseille, has been fascinated in him again.
Reiss Nelson, a winger, is drawing interest from West Ham; Edu, the sports director of Arsenal, is open to permanent bids for Nketiah. About a loan deal for Albert Sambi Lokonga, Sevilla is in negotiations with Arsenal with future possibility for a permanent move. From the other side, Arsenal just turned down a deal for Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley. The offer was apparently approximately £50,000. Experienced and native Bentley would help present goalkeepers David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale more especially. Arsenal is also working with Bologna on defender Riccardo Calafiori, who demands £45 million. While other possible bidders have backed off, the Gunners are making headway with Calafiori’s delegates.
