Unless they pay Newcastle’s full demands, Arsenal can probably scratch Bruno Guimaraes off their transfer list. His friend Joelinton says Bruno should remain put. Many felt the midfielder would depart St. James’ Park, particularly since his £100 million release clause was active between May and June. Fans of Premier League teams were buzzing over a possible move to a top team at that time.
The Only Way Arsenal Can Sign Bruno Guimaraes
The window of time to trigger the release clause has closed, however. Still, Teamtalk notes Arsenal and Manchester City still want to purchase him for £80 million, £20 million less than the expired clause. Although Bruno wants to leave Newcastle on amicable terms, Teamtalk also mentions his desire in joining a Champions League club. Arsenal has to strengthen their midfield; they want to match someone energetic with Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. Joelinton’s comments, however, show Bruno looking forward another season with the Magpies.
Joelinton said, “I believe Bruno will be staying. He assures me he will be returning next week [after a vacation following Copa America] to get ready for the season. I know him; he is a club enthusiast. He likes his life in Newcastle and adores the supporters. Apart from football, he seems happy to remain here for his lifetime.”
Arsenal wants a midfielder capable of playing both as an 8 or a 6. Guimaraes would be exactly fitting, but his expensive cost and need to stay in Newcastle impede the relocation. Arsenal has to concentrate on other targets like Mikel Merino and Fabian Ruiz, who have just shown up in the gossip mill.
Though Arsenal supporters could dream about Guimaraes in the future, the Gunners must focus today. Though many wish lists rank him highly, they have to confront reality. To improve their midfield for the next campaign, Arsenal could look at alternative choices.

If Edu Gaspar raises the offer by £26.1 million, Arsenal may get a quality prospect. The Gunners’ first significant summer movement is almost signed Riccardo Calafiori. Tommy Setford from Ajax has already been sent to Hale End. Now Mundo Deportivo says Barcelona would sell Raphinha for €90m (£76.1m) to help with purchases of Dani Olmo and Nico Williams.
Barcelona would like to retain Raphinha, but financial problems call for otherwise. From Leeds in July 2022 they signed him for £55 million. Sport says Arsenal’s £50m offer won’t be sufficient, hence their approach will have to change. In 37 games, Raphinha had a strong 2023/24 season with 10 goals and 13 assists. Mundo Deportivo believes Barcelona would take into account a deal of €65m (£55m), apparently proposed by a Saudi Arabian team. It would still generate required money even if it is less than Barcelona’s asking price.
Age 27, the Barcelona No. 11 is a superb striker. Xavi even last season labeled him one of the top players in the world. Arsenal would do better, however, spending that money on Nico Williams, who performed well at UEFA Euro 2024. Williams may give the Gunners’ assault new vitality.
Gooners, or Arsenal supporters, should consider the possible influence of Raphinha against other possibilities. Raphinha is gifted, but the club’s money may be stretched further with other players. Signing Williams might be a game-changer offering a younger, maybe more flexible choice.
