Arsenal is increasing the summertime transfer activity. They began by permanentizing David Raya’s loan move for £27 million. They also brought Ajax’s goal-keeper Tommy Setford. Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for £42 million was their first major acquisition. He has a five-year deal agreed upon.
Not stopping there are the Gunners. Having agreed on personal terms, they are in advanced negotiations with Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad. As Merino, a Euro 2024 champion, starts his last year of contract, Arsenal will spend £25 million for him. To increase their striker options, they are also aiming after Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP.
Arsenal Finally Gives Proper Update On Viktor Gyokeres‘ Signing
Linked with Arsenal earlier this year, Gyokeres saw rumours dwindle owing to a knee issue. He has, however, recovered, which calls Arsenal’s sports director Edu to restart talks. Reports indicate Arsenal has a basic understanding with Gyokeres. The last stage is negotiating with Sporting. Gyokeres scored 43 goals in 50 games during his outstanding Portuguese debut season. Originally estimated between £80 and 100 million, Sporting’s asking price has reduced to £68 million. Arsenal finds the transaction more possible with this cut-back.
The double acquisition of Gyokeres and Merino for a total £93 million would excite Arsenal supporters. Gyokeres has English football experience with Coventry City, Brighton, and Swansea City albeit not participated in the Premier League. This ought to enable him to settle fast at Arsenal.
Arsenal intends to sell several players in order to pay for these acquisitions. Emile Smith Rowe may join Fulham for an initial £27 million, maybe increasing to £34 million. Marseille is also intrigued by another Arsenal academy product who has a fresh offer on file.
These actions, in my view, show Arsenal’s intention to contend for first place. Getting Merino’s and Gyokeres would give their team depth and quality. The effectiveness of these moves, however, will rely on how fast the new players pick things up and help. Arsenal’s approach of acquiring new players in balance with player sales looks to be well-considered in order to control expenses.

Arsenal young talent Chido Obi-Martin, who turned down Gunners’ offer, is almost here for Manchester United. With a clearer route to the first team, Fabrizio Romano says the 16-year-old striker is close to signing with the Red Devils. The possible leaving of Obi-Martin worries Arsenal supporters. The Gunners wanted the teenage striker to remain long-term as he has been very successful for their junior squads. But the attraction of first-team prospects at Manchester United proved too much. Although Bundesliga teams also expressed interest, they could only provide a professional contract, unlike in England where youngsters had to wait until they reach 17.
According to sources, Arsenal presented Obi-Martin with a professional contract at £15,000 a week. Manchester United quadrupled that sum, on the other hand, offering a tempting deal for the young person. Though the prospect of first-team football was the deciding factor, his choice most certainly had some influence from such a large offer.
After some time, Manchester United has been hunting Obi-Martin, and it seems they have found success. Romano and other reporters point out that his change of direction stems mostly from the road to the first team. Mikel Arteta’s squad at Arsenal could not have a clear path for the 16-year-old, which would create questions about his chances of fast entering the top club.
